Coming To America, which is the real Black Panther film if you're interested in drexciyan utopia (themes like The Nommo & Sun Ra's vision are touched upon). Eddie Murphy's great as he always was in the 80's. The romance is a bit standard and unfortunately dominates the film, tho' this is a plus if you're a girl. 6/10 worth a watch.
Idiocracy...great idea, crap execution. 3/10 not worth your time.
Indiana Jones trilogy:
Raiders 8/10...great fun, great jokes.
Temple 8/10...still fun, but dark as fook (in an entertaining way...KALIMAR!), let down by overdoing the white saviour angle.
Crusade 3/10...what a disappointment. Lazy script, Harrison Ford's timing was all off, forgettable baddies and worst of all outdoing the white-saviour angle of ToD by having Indy's chubby egyptian mate from Raiders who was switched-on and a bit of a revolutionary leader in that film suddenly turn into a primitive who can't fathom what a tank is: "they're in the belly of that steel beast."
The Adam Ant episode is a classic!
Devil's Backbone was alright, a middling 5/10 for me.
The interesting thing about this film is how accurately it predicted the insane levels of language-policing this contemporary PC-era has wrought upon us.
Agreed. Top 20 of all time in my list.
I wouldn't say "incredibly jingoistic", the German soldier who spared the life of the thin bloke from Lost was portrayed sympathetically. When Lost then shot him later our sympathies were with the German. Other than that I see where you're coming from...I'd call the film sentimental and patriotic, the kind of feels I also don't much care for.
But...that opening scene is still unmatched in its visceral ferocity. Massive cinema right there.
Really enjoyed the first two Cloverfields...the second one really humdingered me as I wasn't expecting that ending! Hoping Paradox is at least entertaining.
There Will Be Blood is top 5 of all time...looking forward to this one.
The DVD is on its way!
Or as he's known in film circles: Legs Scheider. On account of every film he's in he has to show off his hairy limbs.
Eyes Wide Shut has grown to a 9/10 and comfortably top 50 in my all-time list...I didn't watch it again but it stays with you.
AI is ok but overly-sentimental. Also haven't seen Kubrick's Lolita yet, but the 90's one with Jeremy Irons is pretty good.

Watched the remake of the Equaliser with Denzel Washington last night.
Despite the best efforts of Washington, it`s not a patch on the original

Shape of Water. Strange and charming as all of Del Toro's work is. He still hasn't topped Devil's Backbone imo, but it will be interesting to see if a fantasy flick can crack the Oscars, I believe no fantasy or Sci Fi has won best film as yet.

Demolition Man - Still love it.
2 and a half seashells out of 4

Just watched City of God
What a great film

Watched Saving Private Ryan the other day. Very mediocre and incredibly jingoistic.

Also watched "Cloverfield Paradox" on Netflix, I enjoyed it, I have seen the other 2 cloverfield films, but its not essential to this that you have seen them to see this one. some bits are just bonkers, but I liked that

Cinematic perfection.

Sorceror - Excellent. A grimly pessimistic view of fate but difficult to argue with.
The DVD is on its way!
Is that the Roy Scheider one? Love that film.

Eyes Wide Shut is a masterpiece that is sadly thoroughly misunderstood.
I also love AI. Another masterpiece imo.
Haven't seen Lolita!
