Larsson

He'd provide great cover for when Saha is injured and would an excellent role model for the younger lads. He'd be the perfect solution because we don't need a striker for the long term. This would also be his last chance on a big stage. I reckon he'd give us everything.

Definatly, I don't want us to buy another striker. We already have two excellent ones and three up and coming strikers (Anichebe, Vaughan and Baxter). I wouldn't like to see someone come in and stunt there development. You could include Cahill aswell who has played alot as a second striker.

Larsson can play in the hole or as a striker, he'd be perfect for us. He could fit into 4-4-2 or 4-5-1. It'd be a great short term deal.

Plus, he's a Blue aswell.:)

Speaking of (former?) Everton fans, our chances of signing Owen seem to have gone up in the last couple of days.

Other teams linked with him are less likely now to get after him;

Liverpool have flatly denied any interest.
Spurs will be after Arshavin again, or Podolski, or Cavenaghi, or Villa (Valencia bankrupt reports yesterday).
City will be after someone 'bigger' - Villa, Luis Fabiano, Aguero etc.
Villa want a big man to complement Agbonlahor and they actually need a target for crosses from Milner & Young (not our system) - the O'Neill & Heskey link from their Leicester days seems to make that look a done deal.

Realistically, it's a move that would seem to make sense for us and for Owen.

I don't see how we could pay his wages. Owen is on over 100k a week, and has been offered a reduced deal of about 80k. We could probably pay, say, 40k tops. Plus he's also another injury prone striker and since his RS days, has constantly failed to live up to the standards he set himself. I reckon we can do better, mate.

True, we'd have to hope he'd want the move out of his childhood love of the club, wanting to move closer to his extended family and his professional desire to prove himself and force his way back into the England fold.

Surely he's made enough money and could just about manage to survive on 40k a week!!...

The fact that both he and Saha are injury prone is a problem, but by doubling our numbers, we surely improve the odds of at least having one class striker to play (with the Yak) at any given time.

All speculation, just the fact that he may be available for relative pittance makes it seem a more Kenwright-esque transfer!

I'd rather risk Larsson than Owen. Whatever he does/doesn't do on the field least we won't have to spend the next four years listening to him offering pathetic excuses and plattitudes on how he 'owes it to the fans' etc ad nauseum.
Even hearing the name Owen makes me nauseous.

Agreed, spot on.

Glenn Gibbons: Everton and Larsson may prove an ideal match - The Scotsman

Not sure if any1 else has posted this.

And Moyes will be encouraged by the player's positive reaction on hearing that an offer of a short-term contract could be on its way from Goodison.

"I am a free agent and have not yet decided what to do next," said Larsson. "I like Helsingborgs, but I want to see a change of attitude and in the way the club is run before I sign again. I have not completely closed my mind to the idea of going abroad again, so we will see what happens."

SIGN HIM NOW.

You know what will happen Everton fans, Nugent, Larrson and Owen left on the shelf in the summer, while everton stun the world by snapping up England International Emile Heskey.

I think Saha will be back before christmas anyway.

Don't think we'll go for Larsson personally,it'll be Nugent if we're thinking of signing anyone.

On loan, Vim? Because if not, Nugent would be coming in at something like £6m over a 4 year contract (assuming a fee of £2m and £20k a week in wages).
