Current Affairs Labour and Anti Semitism.......

I am shocked and horrified by what is going on today in Jerusalem today.

41 dead at least. Shooting into a crowd? What the ... ? I took my eyes away from this region for far too long. How the hell did this happen?

Absolutely awful. I simply can't process this as it's so terrible. It's monstrous.
It'll get worse tomorrow. The UK and US will do nothing about this. When people such as myself speak out about it, you get branded anti semitic. Its disgusting.

Being against the policies of Israel doesn't make you an Anti Semite

Just as being against the policies of the UK doesn't make you Anti Christian

Indeed, but that's obvious. Condemning the actions in Israel today isn't anti-semitic and that would be the conclusion anyone with a brain would come to. Disgusting scenes that show a complete lack of restraint, and I place heavy blame on both Israel and the USA for the whole thing.

However, Labour have had a problem with actual anti-semitism and it's actually worked the other way - people who have been anti-semitic have claimed they've just been criticising Israel.

Blurred lines all over the shop used by multiple sides with different agendas. For me, there's been clear evidence of anti-semitism in the party, but people are digging their head in the sand over it.

I disagree - this is so bad that it doesn't need condemning; if you pop up and say "the Israelis did this..." then it just allows the people responsible for it to make the usual claim and then the story is about that rather than this.

Bibi's actions should be met with silence; he will probably end up talking himself into a prison sentence.

The upheaval in Gaza will continue as will deaths of Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli state. The Israeli state will continue to bomb Syria and more deaths will occur. The Israeli state will threaten Iran and may start bombing there yet again and causing deaths. The Israeli state did, and will continue to kill people. The story is about the illegal occupation of Palestine, Palestinian resistance to get back their land, property and rightful homeland back and not be confined to a Bantustan. As long as that struggle continues the Israeli state will bomb, shoot and kill people, attack states around it including Syria and Lebanon and attack Iran because it doesn't like its standing in the area and the support it gives to those fighting the Israeli state.

The 'usual claim' will always appear against people who want to condemn the actions of the IDF and the policies of the Israeli state. The Labour front bench, and others in the Labour party have allowed themselves to be browbeaten into silence, due to the well planned 'Labour and anti semitism' agenda. It seems to be working for now.

That is my point though; if you look at previous actions by the Israeli state and the responses to it then there are a very well-worn set of tropes which invariably are worked through.

The left (or elements of it) pop up to condemn something that should not need condemning, the Israelis respond with allegations of anti-Israel bias, the issue turns into one of domestic parties, the media and now the internet having generic pro- vs anti-Israel arguments and meanwhile the behaviour that sparked the fury in the first place gets forgotten or spun into something completely different. Things then calm down until the next horror.

I mean they were shooting dozens people dead for approaching a fence (and in some cases not even that according to reports), it does not and should not need the leadership / MPs / anyone else to point out what a horror that is.

Unfortunately David Baddiel has it so wrong over Hitler and Zionism. To save Jewish life the Zionists negotiated with Hitler - the only Jews the Nazis would negotiate with - and the British to send Jews to Palestine. It was a three way negotiation. The UK government could have taken their fairer share of Jews that were persecuted in Nazi Germany but refused. In fact they could have taken the 60 000 people they allowed to enter Palestine but didn't want to, due to their appeasement towards Nazi Germany.

So you’re in favour of enforced migration? Windrush must have got under your skin then

Forced migration of British citizens due to the Windrush hostile 'get the immigrant' policy, wasn't to save life but to cut it short. The Nazi's negotiated with the Zionists and the UK government to enable some 60 000 Jews to escape persecution and go to Palestine. The UK government should have offered most of Germany's Jews a safe haven to the UK rather than sending them to a foreign continent.

Seems like Smeeth and Mann have got their voices back, after their deliberate silence over Windrush persecution of UK citizens and the IDF's maiming and killing of Palestinians.

Oh, that was nice of them.

... what the actual...

Anyone hear Ken interviewed on five live earlier? Came out with a corker, recollecting the various media smear campaigns against him, he said the mail once accused him of being sodomised by six men in 1981, and back then that wasn't necessarily the vote winner it is today.

Overall though, it was pretty tragic and he came across as a bit of an addled arl fella tbh - alehouse politics. Just torturous to listen to him trying to negotiate his way through what Hitler did and did not say, and what he said Hitler said or did not say wrt Jewish people. As if you could articulate some sort of nuanced position, in mainstream political discourse, on such a seismic event.
