Kyle Naughton

Everton are locked in what could soon become a three-club battle to sign Sheffield United's full-back Kyle Naughton.

Last week Everton agreed a fee with the Yorkshire club and the 20-year-old was given permission to talk to the Merseysiders over personal terms.

Naughton played for the Blades on Friday in a pre-season friendly in Malta, with manager Kevin Blackwell saying: "Sadly, that was his last game for the club. I don't want to lose my best players but the clubs have agreed on a fee."

But since then Tottenham have made a late bid for the player, with Aston Villa apparently also waiting in the wings.

Everton were expecting Naughton at Goodison Park today for a medical, but it is now believed that his advisors are also discussing terms with Spurs as well as the FA Cup finalists.

The Toffees believe that Naughton wants to join them, and are far from happy with the way the deal has been derailed over the past few days.

Everton had agreed a £5million fee, but Spurs are believed to have improved on that, and the negotiations are now expected to drag on for a few days yet.

Everton have also been linked with Reading winger Steve Hunt and Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley as boss David Moyes bids to boost a squad that finished fifth in the Premier League last season.

From the OS

Do you have a link mate? I can't find that on our OS.

If the lad has half a brain, he'll see us as the better move.

Moyes track record with building/re-building a players career is second to none:

Arteta
Piennar
Baines
Lescott
Jagielka
Cahill

If this lad goes to Spurs now, in three years time when we are a regular in the top four, and he's back in the championship with Birmingham or Sunderland, he'll realise the error he will have made.

If we lose out, we'll find somebody else.

COYB.

Still not signed then, im confident on this one - you would be mad to sign for Spurs over Everton given our record of turning Championship players into established Prem and international players. You can forget about what Sheff Utd may or not be doing at the end of the day it will come down to the player.

You know it makes sense Kyle.

Tottenham have reportedly joined Everton in the race to sign Sheffield United defender Kyle Naughton.

It was believed that Everton had secured a deal for the £5million-rated right-back after the clubs agreed a fee, and reports suggest Toffees officials expected him to head to Goodison Park on Monday for a medical.

However, Spurs have now entered the bidding for the 20-year-old and it is understood that his advisors are talking to both clubs.

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell has already admitted that Naughton will not play for the side again and he is now lining up a suitable replacement.

"We're a good club and we can attract good talent," Blackwell told the Sheffield Star.

"People want to come here.

"I know that because I had to recharge my phone twice in one afternoon when everyone realised what had happened. All the calls were people trying to recommend someone.

"What we've also got to do now is unearth the next Kyle Naughton."

Sounds like a load of rubbish has got out from a local radio station. Sky Sports still seems to think we're allowed to speak with Naughton.
