It's almost as if he did 'too well' when he first joined. Then Koeman dropped him for months to protect him. Hasn't looked remotely the same player since, although someone just mentioned he was the best player on the pitch v Twente? Only saw the highlights and he didn't feature! Can anyone else verify he had a great game?

Play well, tracked back when we never had the ball, put himself about as well. Twente were total gash though, and unlike today's game the Twente game had all the hallmarks of a pre season friendly.

Haven't seen the match but did you enjoy the football of Stuivenberg (the Dutch coach of Genk) ? Also was Trossard any good ?

I'm not suggesting he starts every game but he's a solid squad player. We have a few of them the wrong side of 30 but not many that if fit can put in a solid performance when needed. He did a damn sight better than Gana today.

If the rumours of teams being interested in him for a decent sum we'd be fools not to sell, average safe player who's always injured and seemingly on a mission to cause conflict between his employer and his national side

No. It is a real game. Regardless of the substitution ruling you just invented to justify it isn't. Clubs organize these friendlies to prepare for the upcoming season. As a general rule, match fitness, sharpness, energy et al should steadily improve as the pre season goes on. Yes Genk are a couple of weeks ahead of us in their fitness as their league starts next week.

But that was poor for me. Same old same old. Slow build up. Some hit and hope crosses. Sloppy passing. Defensive errors. Same as really.

I see Pozzuelo was absent today. Pozzuelo + Trossard are brilliant to watch. They could have beaten Celta and then they would have been in the semi's of the EL last year. Really good for them that they could keep Trossard for another year; they could surprise in the title race in Belgium this year.

Never ever a top half PL team player. He's a bottom half team player at best, more likely a Championship player. He underlines with every outing how he doesn't belong.

He's also 20.

Wouldn't say it was a 'great defensive' performance by Lookman, but when he lost the ball he would chase back to win it. he would get back and defend when we never had the ball, he was strong in the tackle (looks like he's been beefing himself up over the Summer, he looks so much bigger)
