I take your point, but the experiment would be to go to a majority non-white area and if someone asked me where I was from I’d tell them. I wouldn’t go bleating to the Media and appear on the TV. The difference being I’d just give an answer and not immediately seek a grievance and feel as though I’ve just been abused and suffered verbal violence…..let’s at least do like for like here…..
i think she did say where she was from didn’t she? Can’t imagine it being my choice of reaction either but that is not the story here. The Royal Family have often been accused of racism and incidents like this further suggest that they are a racist institution. Which shouldn’t really surprise anyone tbh.

I love getting to know people, it's great. I hope that I can contonue to do so too.

As for the Melanie Headley situation - for a British woman to change her name to an Igbo name and attend an official event with her chosen African name on her badge dressed in Kente or other traditional African dress does seem a statement and interesting talking point. In this respect it does feel like the sitiation was loaded.

Also considering the sensibilities on display and the fact that Sistah Space only deals with Caribbean and African heritage women, how does Sistah Space define a persons heritage without asking the some clearly upsetting questions!

But actually this is the story. Why did the lady immediately think racism. The other Lady was obviously trying to engage her in conversation but everyone now immediately looks to be aggrieved. The conversation is being poured over word for word as if it had been recorded. Race relations will only improve if people just speak to each other and stop seeking to turn everything ‘racist’…life’s too short as it is……

FFS Pete, the woman is born in Britain. She's British. The member of the aristocracy questioning her couldn't accept this because of her name and appearance. You dont have to look too hard to find the racism here.

So, to put the ball in your court, what does count as racism? Name calling? Comments behind your back? Having your job application ignored because of your name? Being beaten up? Football fans making monkey noises at you? What's your threshold for racism?

Because that specific line of questioning is long associated with racist undertones of ‘not belonging’ and ‘being an outsider’ and many people take offence to being asked this. The lady sacked may have meant no malice but it is extremely ignorant and something which someone representing the royals, should be well aware of. She was sacked immediately, as the Royals are only too aware of this.

Again, how do you know her views ? If I were asked a similar question it would have gone “from Liverpool, but originally the family came over from Ireland’… the lady who ‘suffered all this abuse’ needs to get a grip, and the more I hear of her on her now many TV appearances I’m afraid merely reinforces that view.

“ Ms Fulani also rebuffed suggestions that Lady Hussey's remarks had anything to do with her age.
"Let us be clear what this is. I've heard so many suggestions it's about her age and stuff like that, and I think that's kind of a disrespect - an ageism kind of thing.
"I have to really question how this can happen in a space that's supposed to protect women against all kinds of violence.
"Although it's not physical violence - it is an abuse."
Ms Fulani continued: "If you invite people to an event, against domestic abuse, and there are people there from different demographics, I don't see the relevance of whether I'm British or not British.
"I'm very proud of my African heritage. This is like the Windrush thing to me. You're trying to make me unwelcome in my own space."
She added she felt like she was being asked to "denounce my British citizenship".

She then goes on to compare it with violence. I suspect, but do not know, that women who have suffered actual violence may have a different viewpoint. This particular Lady is milking it….

“ Ms Fulani later told BBC News: "Now, violence isn't always physical, it can be verbal.
"And that felt like violence to me, and when you put your hand in my hair like I'm not even a person - you can just do what you want and say what you want - I don't want to be in your presence."
In an interview on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Ms Fulani also said Buckingham Palace had not contacted her about the incident, insisting she would accept an invitation to discuss it with them.
"See, what we're about is positive results, so absolutely, I think a discussion should be held," she said.
Ms Fulani, who was representing her charity which supports women of African and Caribbean heritage across the UK who have faced domestic and sexual abuse, was one of 300 guests at the event where the Queen Consort, Camilla, had warned of a "global pandemic of violence against women".
No Pete. You have form for this.

You will remember of course saying that Dublin born Leo Varadkar wasn’t as Irish as those with families going back more than one generation.

Ms Fulani is damn right to tell her story to anyone that will listen.

Some people just don’t like brown people do they ?‍♂️

I think its more that the elder generation do not know what can cause offence. And/or, some folk go out of their way to be offended.

Like, if I was invited to Buck House for services to moderation, and some old lady on the staff asked me where I was from. I would say I was brought up in Bristol, but my family roots are in Liverpool, and the family name is Gaelic, so there are links back to there. And me Gran was Welsh.

"Oh, how interesting" would be the response, most likely. But I aint black, so have no idea how it would feel if I was.
