I think its more that the elder generation do not know what can cause offence. And/or, some folk go out of their way to be offended.

Like, if I was invited to Buck House for services to moderation, and some old lady on the staff asked me where I was from. I would say I was brought up in Bristol, but my family roots are in Liverpool, and the family name is Gaelic, so there are links back to there. And me Gran was Welsh.

"Oh, how interesting" would be the response, most likely. But I aint black, so have no idea how it would feel if I was.

And this is exactly what some have been saying, except that whatever your skin colour it should make no difference…

Because that specific line of questioning is long associated with racist undertones of ‘not belonging’ and ‘being an outsider’ and many people take offence to being asked this. The lady sacked may have meant no malice but it is extremely ignorant and something which someone representing the royals, should be well aware of. She was sacked immediately, as the Royals are only too aware of this.

She is 83. How many on here would want their mothers or grandmothers treated to a full blown Media execution because some other woman, who changed her name to sound more African and who only wants to work for the benefit of African Caribbeans, decided to go on TV and tell the world how abused and verbally assaulted she was by a woman trying to engage her in conversation……

It wasn’t a flippant remark Pete , it was an observation based on the evidential posts (disappointing by the way) that I’ve read on here.

I would honestly like to believe that, but to throw in a casual ‘don’t like brown people’ really doesn’t help and nor is it particularly funny…..
