Kevin Mirallas

The oddest thing is that he was already tied down for 2 years and no club has even hinted at showing an interest in him, I have no idea why this extension was necessary.

He's only got a year left I think.

Signed a three-year deal in summer 2015...

It makes sense IMO. He's a good option for Europe next season and it just means that we can recoup our initial small outlay (£5m) when he is sold as there'll be plenty of time left on his deal.

He's played well this season Kev. The issue is he's missing that pace he first had when he came here and in RM's first season.

I thought it was a 4 year deal in 2015. He only seems to play well when played up front or just off the striker, but for some reason Koeman swears by 4-3-3, meaning Mirallas is out in his anonymous left wing position.

Giving players 3-4 year contracts these days doesnt mean the club want them to stay for 3-4 years as mad as it sounds. Its just security for the club to get a maximum fee for a player when they want to move them on (Darren Gibson an example). Its coming to the point were players will not get to the point of 2 years left on their contracts, to avoid a Barkley/Lukaku issue.

Don't understand why Kenwright made it out like it was something to celebrate to be honest.

I'm glad he's signed for europe etc but I doubt we were at risk of losing him.

Good squad player to have around. He's streaky but if we can get in better quality for the first team then he's still a good option for Europa games etc. A top form Kev is still one of our top players. Shame he never quite kicked on from the highs of those goals v Stoke and Spurs. I thought then he was going to be one of the top players in the prem. Still remember him terrorising Liverpool before Suarez took him out (although the RS have conveniently forgotten that one and only bring up Mirallas' retribution one)

Baines and Jagielka are good for another two seasons according to this manager; Mirallas signed up again for another 4 seasons.

Penny dropped yet?

Maybe if your mate had bought better than Alcaraz, McGeady and Lennon we wouldn't need them?

You think he's signed up just to be a squad player? You think the club see him as a peripheral player?

But ok.

This feller went out and flushed £27M down the toilet on Bolasie and £9M on Williams, and £2M on Calvert-Lewin.

Sort of brings those three cheap purchase players you highlight into context doesn't it?

How can you look at it any other way? We're back in the big time. Back to being best of the rest AND we get to keep all our treasured players.

Don't get me wrong Mirallas does my head in so much that this feels an odd move.

But looking at it like a normal person, as much as I want to sell half (possibly over half) of our current squad, that's silly. Some have to stay, and Mirallas can do some good things. Just not often enough. But more often than some others.

Make peace with it. You're worrying about things that haven't happened yet, and may not happen.

Right...

Bolasie was £23mil.

Williams was and has been a solid purchase.

We bought the signing of the season for £7m.

DCL is a young player who was meant for the U23s and who Unsworth was mostly behind.

Koeman likes him and he's been given a role in the first team that he deserves.

The point is we had him on contract. He could have still been here to beef up the first team squad...there was no need to add another four seasons onto his contract. That tells me he is very much in the first team plans of this manager.

Be afraid...be VERY afraid.
