You think he's signed up just to be a squad player? You think the club see him as a peripheral player?

But ok.

He's not a guaranteed starter now, and he won't be next season.

Ergo... squad player.

He'll be useful for the Europa League.

He's much better centrally and it's a shame we don't get to see him play that role unless we go 3-5-2, which due to injuries we haven't been able to do much since March.

It's a harbinger for the summer this.

Expect not much between June and September apart from recycling Lukaku's fee.

Strange decision, but we need numbers for Europe and he's good enough to play against some minnows. Hope we'll have someone better for the league games though.

started 24 out of the 36 games, 9 sub appearances - not selected for 3 games, no injuries to scew those numbers

So he basically plays as a starter 66% of games when fit.

Has played in 5 separate positions this season in games - Half of those as a left winger.

Pretty much sounds like a squad player to me Dave

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
None of them are the standard required.

Bolasie? Please. He's hopeless

Williams is just embarrassing.

Calvert-Lewin - does anyone look at his performances and think he can boost us into a CL spot? Pffffft!

Baines and Jagielka are good for another two seasons according to this manager; Mirallas signed up again for another 4 seasons.

Penny dropped yet?

We need a squad. Selling these three players would get us barely anything yet their value as squad players is still good for another few seasons. If Jagielka and Mirallas are first team regulars next season then you have cause to complain but honestly keeping them round is decent business rather than letting them go and then bringing in a squad player who is happy to play back up and probably of lesser quality.

Ha Ha.

Just two thirds of the games then mate? Oh aye, the very definition of 'peripheral' that is isn't it?

But ok.

Yes to both. His family seem settled here, he's taken successive contracts under two managers who have not rated him as first choice. Whilst Koeman remains he clearly will be a periphery player as he's struggling to get in the side ahead of the likes of DCL and Lookman whilst clearly Bolasie was first choice.

So yes and yes.

Why do we do this to ourselves? Why make excuses and accept this nonsense season after season?

This is just wrong, plain wrong.

Ok mate, if you and others see the retention of garbage like that lot as good or even understandable then fine, you keep that thought. But when we struggle next season will you be rueing the fact that AGAIN you gave a free pass and din;t criticise these decisions?

Moshiri and Koeman have been here one season. The irony of you saying this after excusing two solid seasons of pure fail from Martinez is off the scale.

Yes, if all we do is sell Lukaku and negative net spend our way through another window, I'll be on the warpath - but it's far too premature.

That fee will be huge, in which case we'll be able to bring in at least three £20-30m players.

Add in the sales of the proper trash Martinez accumulated towards the end of his tenure (Niasse, Kone, McGeady, Clevs) plus the possible sales of Funes, Del, McCarthy, one of the keepers etc, and we're looking at another £40m minimum from players we don't need.
