Keeping hold of Fellaini

So when's he signing then ffs? I bet there's a clause in the contract that says if we get an offer of like 25 mill for him then he's free to leave. He wouldn't sign a 5 year deal when he's said he wants to play champions leaguye with or without us if there wasn't some sort of clause like that in the contract.

Yeah, Fellaini over Rodwell any day for me too.

Think Rodwell is a terrific prospect, but compared to others around his age (Wilshire) he's not there yet.

If we keep hold of him, i think he really needs to cement a position in midfield. For me, I think he'd be better in a holding midfield position, breaking up the play with Fellaini, allowing space for Arteta and Osman to be creative.

But, if it came to selling one, which I believe it unfortunately will,if someone offers 15-25 million for Rodders, I'd snap there hand off. At this stage, I think that when on form, Fellaini is key to our midfield, the player who glues it all together and allows the playmakers some room.

At this stage, Rodwell (for me) can't do that, and we need the money for a 20 goal a season striker (Falcao, Sow etc) and a winger like Donovan or Jarvis -- preferably Donovan, along with a steady, young replacement for Rodwell (Barkley from the academy) and maybe a back up striker -- can't see Saha lasting much longer and Beckford needs competition.

Also, selling players like Bily, Saha, Yak and Yobo could get us in 10-15 million.

Our squad needs refreshing, not overhauled entirely, but something different.

Can't see Rodders going this season especially for the fee wed want.

Disappointing season and euros.

The length of the deal is really more of a security for the club than shackles on a player. Rather than signing a 3 year deal for example, where his value would rapidly diminish in the final season signing him for 5 years would give them some reassurance that if another club were to come knocking, they'd get their moneys worth.

Having a long term contract agreement will never stop top class players being poached, it just means the 'top clubs' will have to pay more for them. If a club like Real thought Fellaini was good enough to play for them, they wouldn't walk away because Everton want £25m rather than £10m.

Doubting the release clause on felli. Firstly, we're bigger than even considering the need to offer such clauses (in comparison to, say, blackpool or whatever - champo outfits might have "top division release clauses), second, we would know if such a clause was present (in media reports and probably on FM too), and third - this isn't spain. When is the last time you read about an EPL player on a min-fee-release?

Also, Daily Mail bringing positivity into the fray, saying we're optimistic about a new deal. Normally, i'd consider that a good sign, but being the daily fail, this is just an omen of what is to come. Dear god i hope it's no Pienaar-like farce awaiting us in the future.

I wouldn't blink twice if we got rid of him for £20-25m. We could replace him with someone alot more creative.

As I've said his passing and 1st touch are still way short. He isn't creative. He sometimes lacks intelligence in challenges. Yes a young lad but with 2 years left I think it may be time to cash in. Can't see him signing a new contract. The type to run it down!

Getting shut of Fellaini, Heitinga, Yobo & Yakubu for £30 odd million wouildn't bother me. Out with the old in with the new. We could do alot with that kind off money and those wages off the books!

You say that based on a couple of pretty massive leaps both of which aren't really likely at all.

1) All the money we would make from selling these players would go back into the transfer kitty.
2) Proven players with more creativity than Fellaini would come to Everton, a side who currently aren't challenging for Europe.

1)I'd hope that the funds would go back in. This is what Everton and the board have mainly done when we have sold player. Lescott & Rooney cash.
2) Didn't we finish 7th, a place that in recent seasons got you a European place? Only because Birmingham and stoke won and reach a final respectively but didn't finish in the top 6. Anyhow. If we had money we could quite easily attract proven creative players. We play in the premieship and we're also chaseing a European place.

Fellaini needs to sign a contract within the next few months or be sold. Simple as that. We cannot afford to let a £15m signing go into his last twelve months or so of his contract without this being sorted. I hope the board and Moyes have learned this lesson.
