Keeping hold of Fellaini

It's obvious Fellaini likes playing for us, he shows a love for the fans and a respect for the manager. However, he is young and ambitious and if a club came along offering him Champions League football then I think he would take it. I would wish him well and lament our inability to keep hold of him. I don't even think it will come down to money on this one, it isn't the same as the Pienaar situation were he is after one big payday. If Fellaini sees we are a team that has stopped progressing it is a matter of when not if he will leave and that will likely apply to a few others.

This unfortunately comes with the Media not seeing us as contenders for any success and players begin to believe the hype. This team has proved on many occasions that we are unplayable on our day... and we have quite a few of them! :) So why aren't we in Europe? The Manager takes some responsibility, as does the chairman but when are the players going to take some?

If Fellaini wants to be in the Champions league then he needs to be scaring the rest of them to play harder and win more, not making comments stating he is good enough to be bought success by a "better" club. Say Everton did amaze us all and win the league next year, Fellaini would never better that feeling by winning anything with the top sides, it would mean so much more.

The league evened out a last year, so guaranteeing CL football isn't as done as it has been before but that also means if a team like Everton can actually turn it out for a good season, then anythings possible. If we are going to keep him then we need to 1. show some ambition and have that board find Davie some money, and 2. have the players put their all in as a unit and start playing the way we know they can, regularly.

Unfortunately, all we can do as fans is shout louder or win the euro millions.

But then , thats just your Happy-Go-Lucky nature though , eh , Lid ???

No, that's just the reality of the situation:

  • you're Belgian and probably weren't even sure where Everton were located before signing for them
  • you're playing out of your skin and improving each game with other clubs looking at you
  • you play for a club that's been downsizing for the past three years and has no realistic chance to improve off the filed
  • the manager says 7th may be the limit to the club's ambitions in the PL
...it's not a stretch to think Fellaini sees all that and wants something better.

Haha .

Agreed , but that does mean he wants it NOW !!!

"Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini has told the club his desire for Champions League football may force him to leave." - Mirror

hope that is bollocks..

To be Fair he is bound to say what he has app Said...

Lets just hope we don't dither like we did with Pienaar.

He's got two years left on his deal. We can't let that go down to one year. If he won't sign then, with ridiculous sums being spent on midfielders this window, we might have little choice but to cash in.

Maybe we'll let the clock run down like Piennar, and the "club" will take a low offer from some other dodgy dealer.

Scouting fees my arse.

I imagine that he's waiting to see who comes in this summer and what ambition we show before deciding on his future. We do need to set some sort of deadline though. If we're going to sell then do it now while inflated fees for Henderson, Fabregas and Modric will help us to push the price up. Clubs generally don't make major purchases in January and come next summer he'll be entering the final year of his contract, so we'd probably be lucky to get back what we paid for him.

This may very well be our only choice given our current financial situation. Two serious ankle injuries behind him, between those injuries & suspensions we've got on with it (not always well) for sizeable chunks of the last 3 seasons- without having the funds to have options to cover for his injuries and suspensions.

Whilst there's no English premium to be attached I have no doubt clubs in Spain & Italy would pay us enough to do the right kind of business in the transfer market. Love him to stay with us but if he won't sign in the next couple of weeks- Moyes needs those funds to have a right good go in the market, sooner rather than later.

No emotional attachment from either side and no need for there to be- He's not been available for enough games in reality for me,but if the lad wants CL footy I wouldnt hold it against him.

Maybe clubs are spending big now to get their business done before they have to think about fair play and balancing the books? If that is the case, then they're likely to trade conservatively next summer. Some sites claim that Modric is worth £35m. We're yet to discover the price for Fabregas. Realistically, with that as a yard stick, Fellaini must be worth at least £25-30m. If he decides not to renew his contract he'll be worth half that next summer. We simply can't afford to lose £15m.

Exactly. If Moyes doesn't issue an ultimatum soon, Felli is all set-up to do a Pienaar going into next season and we'll be looking at a contract run down or at best sub 10 million fee.

You'd think that after seeing how Peanuts went about departing, Felli would show us enough respect by helping the club out by getting us a fee. He's being honest and I too couldn't blame him for wanting CL etc, but he can do that & still do the right thing by the club & supporters.
