I've always been impressed with Johnson at Cardiff, but i'm not sure Cardiff would want to sell for anything under 6 million and i don't think i'd spend over 4 million him.

Would the same arguement and sense still apply if say City bid for Arteta rather then Lecott?

The same gist of the argument applies. I would argue that Arteta is more unique at Everton, and harder to replace, so the price would be higher. But yes, the same argument applies.

I'd still be depressed, but mad at the state of football in general rather than Everton for the decision.

Arteta in my opinion would extremely hard to replace to the point of being impossible . Lescoot on the other hand could be more easily replaced .

Lescott quoted in various papers this morning with a rather underwhelming no comment:

The defender is contracted to Everton until 2012 but, when asked whether a switch to City would interest him, he opted against reaffirming his commitment to Goodison and instead replied: "That's not a question I want to be answering. Nobody has told me otherwise, so I'm an Everton player."

Lescott hopes the chance to play in Europe for the Toffees, who reached the FA Cup final and finished fifth, next season will only serve to boost his international ambitions.
"Maybe not so much Champions League, but playing European football does help a lot," he said.
"The Europa League will be a great standard and we will be in there next season.
"If I can establish myself playing European football, then who knows?"

England ace says he is committed to Toffees

Everton's England international defender Joleon Lescott has played down speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City.
The former Wolves stopper has been linked with a £15million move to the City of Manchester Stadium this month, although Lescott is treating the talk as speculation.
The 26-year-old is contracted to Everton until the summer of 2012 and unless told otherwise insists he is a Toffees player with a long term future at Goodison Park.
Lescott has been away on international duty this week and the defender, who made 36 Premier League appearances last season, is unhappy at having to answer questions on his future.

West Ham's Matthew Upson was expected to be given the nod by Fabio Capello, but to Lescott's surprise he was handed a rare start in the 6-0 demolition job of the minnows.
"Going into the game, I did not expect to play because Matt has been doing well recently," he continued.
"It was a surprise to me, and I only knew when we had a meeting at 5:45pm and my name was down in the team.
"I have just got to stay focused and give it my all when I come to join up with England by training hard."

I am beginning to lean towards selling him. Looking at the list of player which is available to us if we have 20m, you can't help but drool at prospect of moutinho, van der vaart etc.

We need Lescott, we cannot afford to let him go. Jags is out until after Xmas, Rodwell is too young to step up as a full time CB so we are left with Lescott and Yobo. The latter half of the season has demonstrated that Yobo is suffering from brain fade. If we are to have any chance of success next season in the Europa Cup and Premiership then Lescott has to stay. The only realistic replacement would be Upson.

To talk of selling him to finance other signings is in my opinion a nonsense. Success for a team means having a strong defence not goal scorers up front.

You can't stop a player wanting to move. If he decides to leave, all we can do is make full use of the money we get. There's only one club in this world which will throw 20m at Lescott, miss it and it's gone, never to happen again.
Man Utd took the gamble to sell ronaldo, and in my opinion, it's a shrewd business. The same can be said of us if we sell Lescott.

Bearing in mind Joleon is not an Evertonian, you could see that he might be tempted to feather his nest and double his salary. If I was a footballer, and I played for any club other than the mighty blues (my club), I would be sorely tempted too.

But anyway, he's not said he wants out, because no doubt he's wondering whether City is the club for him. I'm sure if it was United, it would be a different story.

I hope he stays, and Moyes gets his £20m anyway.
