More paper talk

Joleon Lescott is finally bound for Manchester City after the Eastlands club made a final offer of £20m to Everton for the defender's services.

Daily Mail:

Manchester City expect to have Joleon Lescott playing for them in time for the big kick-off on Saturday, taking Mark Hughes’ spending this summer past £100million.

City believe their final offer of £20m plus add-ons for the England defender will be accepted by Everton, who remain unhappy with their North West rivals.

Sportsmail believes the transfer will be completed in the next 36 hours.

City bound: Joleon Lescott is on the verge of leaving Everton

After privately declaring the move all but dead over the weekend, it is understood
City were given encouragement on Monday afternoon and are now hopeful of having the player in their line-up to face Blackburn.

Everton, who have said they will not be bullied into agreeing the deal, are finally wavering.

While City are paying over £5m more than they originally expected, it once again shows the support for manager Hughes from the rich owners.

Hughes, who has already spent £95m on a host of top players including Lescott’s
England team-mate Gareth Barry, has considered other options, including West Ham’s Matthew Upson and Chelsea captain John Terry.

But he wants Lescott in a left-foot, right-foot partnership with Kolo Toure that he believes can be the solid base to support their all-star attacking options.

Well seeing as they've fcuked us about all summer, they can stick anything less than £28m up their asses.

Two weeks ago I would have gone for £22m or whatever) but it's too late now for us to get a replacement.

Hes not going im convinced of that now. Wouldnt put it past City though putting in another id they know wont be accepted three days before the prem starts to disrupt preperations - mega lack of class that lot!

fingers crossed but if we let him go now at this late stage someone in the boardroom needs a good kicking - 20 mill or not, it's too late to get someone else in.

I wish that trash with cash brigade would just stick their dollars up their backsides.

Do the Deal.

Were just being greedy now.

It's too late to take just £20m. We could have pushed for that 10 days ago when they offered £19m.

Let's face it, Moyes isn's actually a fast mover in the market. If he goes now, there is chance we end up with no-one to replace him.

I would take £28m, though. :)

Or maybe £20m + Richards (assuming he's not still got his "cold").

With Upson being priced at £15 m. then perhaps Al-JazeCity have found out that close to £25 m. for Joleon is not completely mad. I would take anything from £22 m. and above.

agreed. DM is ultra cautious so we can expect a month of deliberation before he signs anyone....but by then it'll be too late.

i'd be surpised if Moyes sold him for less than 22 mil

Only problem is who is going to be other Center Back against Arsenal if we don't get a replacment fast? maybe Rodwell?

Lescott defo isn't going anywhere now.

Actually 15M for Upson is about right in today's market. He's better than Toure. Though I would have went after Haageland before Upson.

Manchester City can seal Matthew Upson deal with £15m bid

• West Ham will accept offer for centre-half
• England international wants European football

Manchester City will encounter little resistance from West Ham United if they follow up their interest in Matthew Upson with a bid of around £15m. West Ham have not been able to give their manager, Gianfranco Zola, a large transfer float this summer, but equally do not have to sell players. However, they are conscious that Upson, at the age of 30 and with two years to run on his contract, would be unlikely to command an eight-figure fee again, particularly as there has been little inclination from either the club or the player to extend his deal at Upton Park.
Upson, who is with the England squad for Wednesday's friendly against Holland, has made little secret of his desire to play European football, preferably in the Champions League, saying it was something he needed at this stage of his career. The opportunity to join the ambitious project at Eastlands would appeal to him. He is also keen to further his chances of making Fabio Capello's England squad for the World Cup finals next summer.
City are believed to be ready to pay £12m for him, with a further £3m in add-ons, after growing frustrated in their pursuit of the Everton central defender Joleon Lescott. Everton have stood firm in the face of a series of inquiries from City, the latest containing a £19m bid, and Mark Hughes, the City manager, is prepared to move on to the next name on his list of targets.
Hughes has spent £94m this summer, £15m of it on Kolo Toure, the centre-half from Arsenal, but he feels that his team still needs strengthening in defence, where he wants to replace Richard Dunne, the club captain and four-times player of the year. City failed earlier in the summer with an audacious and extravagant move for the Chelsea and England centre-half and captain John Terry.

Well if City are prepared to pay £15m for Upson (paper talk, I know) at aged 30, then they ought to add an extra 10m minimum to their bid for Joleon.

Anyway, I'm sick of City, Hughes, and their supporters. I'm normally a balanced person when it comes to other clubs. After all, football is football, and so much of it is about being an asshole anyway. But this lot have taken it to a new level.

So they can bugger off as far as I'm concerned.

Well there you go, paper talk. No other paper are reporting it...and Upson has rejected a new contract (apparantly), and Citeh could have Dustbin...I mean Distin.

Unless they buy all of them, which wont happen. I know they're money bags but they'll got for the cheaper option IMO.
