Evans and Van Dijk
Neither of those two names fills me with much hope

Evans and Van Dijk

More interesting was how he responded to if he worries about a bid coming in the board wont refuse and he said he doesn't worry about situations he can't control

Are they hoping for a cut of the sale or something? That is beyond parody. I hope we keep him even more (if that was possible) just to show them up to be the utter helmets that they are.
EDIT: I'm referring to the false dichotomy of options on offer for the vote at the bottom of the article.
The Stones deal: for me, Martinez has been on board with this - it's just that he's not bargained for the delay. He's said from the off he'll do business late on but maybe felt the bidding process would start in the late £20Ms and quickly reach mid £30Ms - hence his frustration.
He's fallen into a trap here, because the board couldn't give a monkeys what Martinez's schedule is, they're more than happy to take this to the wire as it also means less of the incoming Stones cash is spent. It's win-win-win for the board: taking all the tv cash; selling Stones to fund incoming players; saving some of that cash for themselves.
This is what happens when you have a bunch of ruthless carpet baggers running a club.

If we sell him for a penny less than Sterling went, I'll be furious

The question is, what are we going to do when they offer 28, which when we sell to Barnsley is 25. And Celtic sensing our weakness demand 15 for van Dijk, and Manchester United want 12 for Evans. Or Swansea quote 25 for Williams?
Right. We have to replace Stones (with an inferior player) and after we do that, and after Barnsley's cut and wages/fees of extra players which you know they'll take out of this cash, we'll have maybe 10m. 10m! For selling the best defensive prospect England has produced in a decade we will get 10m.
That's the thing. It's of absolutely no benefit to us to sell him. We sell for £30m this window and a few people need lynching. Personally think he'll stay and the £30m is pure garbage, plucked out the air. Rio went for that over a decade ago ffs.
Every bone in your body tells you the door should now be bolted and the matter should now be marked closed.
It is only commonsense.
