Jimmy Bullard

Only 1 question is needed. Does Bullard improve the squad in terms of QUALITY, the answer must be no. Yea hes a decent player and so on, but Moyes has made a big rod for his back.

Hes said he only wants players that will bring the club forward. Take us to the next level, to go out and sign Bullard, Smith or similar players would mean he was lying in the 1st place.

Yes we are getting desperate and im sure every single club in Europe is now aware of this, so i reckon they will want 20m for Bullard now anyway. Its gonna be a looooooooooooong hard season, unless we get in the 6-7 players Moyes said at the start we need. Can anybody see this happening? Even Moyes has basically said he cant.

Moyesy says: "We have got injured players to come back, we had some players away in Africa who we knew were going to take a little bit longer to get ready. Tim Cahill isn't back yet, Leon Osman missed a good majority of the pre-season and has only just returned. He only passed a fitness test before the game.

We have got young boys as well so if we picked up an injury or two, we might be in trouble. Joseph Yobo also had extra time off because of his situation in the summer. We have got players at all different levels and all different periods of their preparation. We have really only had four or five players who have done all the work. I said in the summer that I needed to get five players, it could now be up to six or seven. Is getting seven players in possible? I don't know."

And this is the money quote.

When will Evertonians in general start to figure out these three very basic tenets when it comes to the transfer market?

1) The "quality" that everyone here is banging on about costs quite a bit more than it used to.

2) The "quality" that everyone is here is banging on about doesn't grow on trees. Most clubs save the Big Three have fewer "quality" players and therefore are reluctant to let them go at any price much less today's prices. Case in point, would Everton be willing to sell our "quality" (i.e. Arteta, Lescott, Yakubu?) Probably not.

3) Everton don't have the money to be buying this "quality" like the Big Three can.

So save your breath if you're gonna complain about a player like Jimmy Bullard because he isn't the "quality" we need to take us to the "next level."

Facts are facts and the sooner people resign themselves to the very real fact that we cannot compete in this transfer market with the very teams we're trying to catch, the better. Save your bitching. It's obvious to all that Moyes is starting to see the limitations of the club as it's been much harder to bring in what he wants.

If you doubt this, then all you have to do is look at the Moutinho situation. This is a guy that is "quality" and we couldn't get him. No one doubts that he's the type of "quality" to get us to that "next level" and look at how it turned out.

I'd take Jimmy Bullard in a minute if he's healthy and fit. It would be one thing if we were linked with a really crap player but Bullard isn't crap.

The rest of you can keep on dreaming about the Moutinho's and the Arshavin's.

Feel free to accuse me of not being ambitious enough.

I'm not the one living in la la land.

Im not knocking Bullard, hes a decent pro and would give us 100% and i agree with what your saying, clearly Moyes and us have to lower our targets.

Its just frustrating to go from Moutinho to Bullard, but the way i feel at the moment i would welcome anybody with open arms, the fact is clear we need 6-7 players. Yea i would LOVE them to be Moutinho, Milto, Mbia, etc, but at the moment i would settle for Nugent, Smith, Bullard ANYBODY really.

We ALL had high hopes at the start, the 5th finish, the Moyes soundbites about getting in quality, the youngsters coming thru, BKs big Watch this space interview, but BANG we play a game, we play badly, we field an Under 18s bench and we all face up to the truth.

So yes Buy Bullard, Buy Smith, Loan Nugent, Loan the entire Arsenal reserves for all i care, just DO SOMETHING and now.

I do not live in la la land, ive clearly moved to Desperation Island, Population :40,000 +

Sorry mate.

Took that comment you made (which is one we hear a lot of) to make my point.

Not directed to you at all.

I probably should have said that in my post.

Sorry. :)

I agree but we can dream, and thats all it is.For me the priority was and still is a holding mid DM should have got that one nailed early on, anything else would be seen as progression in the transfer market.
Just a question who would yo say was the last proven talent we signed? Just a general question.

The yak was pretty proven, scored goals all over the place and also i would say AJ was a proven prem player.

(y)(y)(y) tx

covers some of what i was trying to get at in the player shortage thread. these top notch world class team beating players are not two-a-penny so when we dont get the ones we chase then there aren't others of equal quality to go for instead.
apparently, according to some of the replies, there are loads of them out there and we havent gone after anyone let alone alternatives.
i still reckon some are blinded by foreign names and jump on their bandwaggon instantly yet will dismiss someone like bullard straight away.

Sorry mate, but for now I refuse to believe that we can't get those quality players in, who can (possible) take us to the next level. And I don't believe for one second, that David Moyes has given up hope of landing some of those top class players. I still hold out hope, that Moutinho will become an Everton player before the 31st of August.

That said, I'd welcome Jimmy Bullard with open arms, as I believe he's a great character to have around the squad. He also isn't the worst player out there and could quite well do a job for us.

I wholeheartedly believe that we should try to get a few quality players in. I've never said that we shouldn't try.

I also believe that we as supporters need to understand that it's much harder for us to do it vs. some of the other clubs out there.

For me, we don't need to break the bank to get what would help us. But Moyes won't settle for second best. I admire him for that but I also think that's one of the reasons we're in this pickle.

Agree with all of that, but also feel that because of David Moyes we have a fair chance of pulling such transfers off. It's quite obvious Moyes refuses to settle for mediocre players (not saying Bullard is in that category) at this moment in time. I also recognise it's a very dangerous game to play, but for a club with limited financial resources probably the only way. Think it's pretty obvious that either we gonna be the big time loser of this transfer period or (hopefully) the big winner, by playing the waiting game.
