January Transfer Window 2026

I do think we are incompetent, yes, because we are, our scouting department is abysmal and we've got Moyes denying all transfers too. Every transfer window we've had since the Lukaku one (barring the PSR ones) have been a failure, yes.

I'm glad you think this is fine and we're doing a great job while failing to strengthen a weak squad with obvious holes in it and that cost us, opinions and all that. There is no way in the real world that there was absolutely no right or left back available, even on loan, in Europe, that was willing to come to the PL with the amount of money in it. Every team gets players from abroad ("some winger from the Israel league" or whatever) and then we crap ourselves when they're actually decent and can play a role, but we can't do that. The only player available this winter transfer window, to us, was Tyrique George, and we haven't finalised it yet and are leaving it for the last seconds and hoping the fax machine doesn't break down again.
The bit in bold is the pertinent bit

You're right - there absolutely would have been, but the criteria is that we won't overspend to get that player and that player has to be available, want to come here and needs to be someone who significantly improves us (because spending big on a player who is a marginal upgrade or is just another body seems insane).

It's frustrating, but that profile of player hasn't been available this month, it would seem. If they have been, then they haven't gone anywhere yet (you'd assume we are not the only team on the lookout for this profile of player).

For a loan like that, it seems insane, so it was more sane to start with a CB at RB and no one else?

They'd be available if we were looking, but as I (and Moyes) said, "there's no good business in January". This myth that our scouting department works well hasn't been true since Cahill probably, and even then it was iffy.

I mean that'd be true, if he wasn't also in the team when we get points and has had a few clean sheets too.

You can just say you despise his existence without beating around the bush mate, it's fine, we'll judge tho
Ha, I don’t at all. He is doing better with a run of games but everyone is obsessing with the need to get full backs who have 10 assists a season.
I’m happy with full backs who keep clean sheets first and foremost, wingers who assist and strikers who can get on the end of things.
Buy me a striker over a marauding fb every day. Give me wingers who play on their natural side and can cross the ball to those strikers too.
We have wingers who don’t assist yet all the blame is at the full backs.

I want more quality everywhere and would love a Baines equivalent on both wings but there seem to be very few fb these days who can defend and attack

I’m struggling to wrap my head around this. Are we really saying that, with the combined knowledge of our scouts, the transfer committee, and David Moyes, there isn’t a single right-back option anywhere in the footballing world?

I’m aware that the finances have to stack up and that the player has to be interested in joining, but it’s honestly nonsense. To top it off, there’s talk of getting rid of the right-back who’s actually performing well.

Utter clown fiesta
Clearly the club still aren’t attractive enough for the “right players” and only journey men looking for a salary mid season.

We’ve got a long way to go but if you’re looking at getting the quality the club keep talking about then your sales pitch can’t just be “we’ve got a shiny new stadium ans a dream”. Players will see their outlet ball and delivery from the likes of McNeil, Beto etc and see no clear pathway to European football or trophies.
Even Moyes who has a National reputation but not continental whereas even in our darkest days, Carlo was bringing James and Allan to the club because of his reputation more than anything else.

We’ve got to be balanced and it’s hard to take but it will take a number of progressive years for the club to be an attraction to the level we all hope

The Wilson enquiry is laughable if true. Oh there's a player who did well on MOTD, BID!

LIKE DIBLING?

40M would've sorted both full back position where the lack of overlapping and balls into the box has cost us all season, and the lad's hardly played.

instead we're coughing up turgid football with limited footballers when the flat prem table could've offered a run at Europe ( it still could ).

Take all money off our scouting department NOW and start playing Adnan, Rohl, Dibling now until the end of season.

That's a tonne of games to see _if money already being spent is coherent with the team_. If not, do one.

And ffs MOYES teach the whole team about delivering balls into the box whilst YOU'RE at it.

I see NO current recruitment or existing player development in line with declining team performance on the pitch right now. This window is entirely inline with the stagnation of the last month since beating forest, JUST WHEN POINTS Were available in our run of games...

yes a few injuries, but the negativity against Leeds and Brighton should be ringing alarm bells
Wow, you actually don't seem like that much of a Smiley Chap currently I have to say.

If we do send Aznou and Patterson out does that mean Moyes tactical approach for the rest of the season is to start with 4 Cbs every until mykolenko returns?, Or is he planning to reintegrate Coleman which both scenarios are pretty disconcerting
If both leave on loan and Everton don’t at least bring in a right-back, it’s a baffling call. Branthwaite and O’Brien shouldn’t be filling in at full-back.

Counting on Coleman to get fit in 2026 is madness also

Can't see Moyes letting Patterson go without a incoming player tbh
