January Transfer Window 2026

Who writes this stuff... "looked at" 🤣.

Moyes seems to have done a great job outing all the leaky insiders at the club - we don't even know if Alcaraz has broken his little toe or torn his hammy. Let's hope that is the reason for the lack of genuine links to anyone we have any likelihood of signing.

"Looked at " what's next a "cursory glance", that's not even "monitoring or mulling" the first stages of an Everton transfer expedition.

"Allardyce arrives at Everton with the club lying 13th, with 15 points from 14 matches.30 Nov 2017."
Arguably a worse squad than we have now and he at least got the team playing with with energy and purpose (which they aren't doing now) Finished 8th which we won't do this season. A team doesn't need to be in one of the relegation places to be in danger of relegation.
In a relative sense it wasn't anything like a worse squad than this one and people constantly making out like it was is really weird. We finished 7th the season before and 8th the season after, going down with that side would have been an incredible effort, even David Unsworth had a 50% win rate with them.

Im more annoyed by the games against Wolves, Bretford and Burnley thn i am about Sunderland mate, if wed gotten 6 to 7 points from those three games wed be deep in the European places. Massive wasted opportunity - im really annoyed about and im actually surprised most aren't.
That goes hand in hand with my post mate.

Going into them games strengthened and not weakened I doubt any of us would have been annoyed and probably still in the FA cup.

But as the saying goes

Fail to prepare ............

I do get what you're saying but to some extent that's always going to be the case isn't it? Like numbers wise you're very often just shipping some players out and bringing new ones in, that's normal. Realistically I'm not sure we can call swapping Harrison for Grealish, Dibling for Lindstrom, Barry for Chermiti etc 'replacing like for like' with a straight face. We're talking about losing players who were basically brought in purely for numbers because they were available for the absolute minimum outlay and bringing in players we actually wanted for (in Everton terms) very significant sums of money. Obviously whether those signings have been the right ones, and whether we can trust the people who made those decisions to bring in the other players we need in this and future windows is up for debate, but I don't really agree that we didn't make moves which should have seen a significant improvement to the squad this summer.

Barry was brought in to replace DCL, not Chermiti. He’s our starting centre forward. As I said, we’ve replaced players that played in our first team last season (Harrison and Lindstrom both played most games they were available for) with other players who play in our first team now. Some of them are clear improvements like Doucoure to KDH, others appear to be downgrades like DCL to Barry, and then we have a lot of players who just seem to be floaters that haven’t improved us or made us weaker, like Rohl, Aznou and Dibling. On top of that we’ve lost Branthwaite for the whole season so when you balance all of that out, the £100m we’ve spent has kept us treading water from the last two seasons. We need to invest that again twice over sadly.

I must have missed the part where he got us playing with energy and purpose, i remember an absolute dire run with zero shots on goal
He got us getting points when we needed them. I was at Newcastle away and the Derby at the pit, they definitely put in a shift in both those games. Nobody is making claims about his managerial style. The original post I answered stated we were in no danger of relegation when he took over. I believe we were.

Yes but like I said that's normal? Grealish replacing Harrison isn't 'like for like', it's one player replacing another player but when the one coming in is probably costing you as much for one year on loan as the one going out would cost to buy and pay for 5 years it's not 'like for like'. Same when you replace Lindstrom who was clearly just brought in as a body because he didn't cost anything with Dibling who cost ÂŁ35m. Again, some of the players may not have actually improved us but that doesn't take away from the fact that they were brought in with a view to improving us. We'd laugh if a Liverpool fan tried to claim they hadn't actually done anything to improve their squad because Isak and Wirtz hadn't done any better than the players they moved on.

That horse has bolted now and we will get players back and our first 11 is competitive, but a right back improves this widow strengths three areas of the pitch in my opinion, right back, centre half and centre midifled.

So if the club have any interest beyond 10th-12th - that is going to be telling.

We're going to learn an awful about the new administration and TFG - Moyes has come out today and said he wants to go for it - so its over to them.

Is there an element Everton fans expectation doesnt match reality in the 3 games you mentiioned. Brentford are sitting 5th in the table and it doesnt look a fluke. They've scored more goals than liverpool villa and chelsea this season. Wolves just had a month of Arsenal liverpool and man united. all away games and every single one of them were close matches. Im a bit surprised why Everton are just expected to roll these teams over when clubs higher in the league never.
I know some dont want to hear it but i just think we're not that good. Average in terms of team and manager. Throw in our best few players not being available and it makes us even worse.
Most non Everton fans i know think we're a bit drab with crap forwards. I'm not sure there's a strong argument against that.

We probably will, but as Moyes has said himself the players he wanted are looking for European football and that won't change. Plus we don't know how Branthwaite's fitness will stand up and if N'Diaye will want away for a CL football. Add to that the strong chance we either can't afford Grealish or the owners don't see him as fitting their long term transfer strategy and the season has been a wasted opportunity.
And in a World Cup year like we will have this summer these 'snob' players will look at us even less, so January will be seen as a missed opportunity.

Dibling hasn’t offered us any more than Lindstrom offered us sadly. He may do in the future but right now when assessing his and our performances this season, we haven’t improved there. So actually in terms of quality that is as it stands, a like for like replacement, we’ve replaced an ineffective winger with no end product with another one, despite paying £35m for the privilege.

Barry replacing DCL is not a like for like replacement quality wise, but the other way around from the argument you’re making. I didn’t even rate DCL, but this club once again has managed to go out and find a player even worse while coughing up £30m for the privilege again.

Doucoure to KDH also isn’t like for like quality wise, we’ve clearly improved in that area as stated.

Harrison to Grealish is a temporary upgrade that we will have to address properly in the summer coming up.

Branthwaite being replaced in the starting line up by Michael Keane is as big a downgrade as I think is possible in Premier League football.

So when all of that is taken into account, actually, I think we have replaced the quality in the squad like for like from last season. It was a terrible transfer window, I said it at the time and I think it even more right now having seen the performances of Barry, Dibling and Rohl. I want the recruitment team sacked.

Indeed. We need better players and a better manager or else we should simply dress up the owners' lack of genuine ambition as "stability" and "incremental progress." We're never progressing much with the current level of player and manager.
