January Transfer Window 2026

That's not the argument, the argument is Arteta would of in theory looked at us as a longterm project and recruited with that in mind whilst Ancelotti saw us as a must win now project and lumbered us with ageing Allan, talented but dubious commitment James Rodriguez and Doucoure though Doucoure wasn't his suggestion according to rumour. It was a very short-term approach by Carlo (he also didn't want to develop the youth like Gordon either) so as soon as the wheels started falling off we ended up in a worse state
Arteta inherited a decent squad at Arsenal far better than we had at the time,as soon as he struggled here the knives would have been out.

This is a genuine question- what do our recruitment do. Several people have a full time job at Everton to find, and sign, players to improve the first team. I get that up to 12 months ago we were financially hamstrung and needed a lot of wheeling and dealing, scraping round for bargains. That’s not the case now. So since September 1st, to today, have our recruitment team been unable to identify a right back in all of the world to sign for us? In any other walk of life if you went to your boss and said ‘sorry, it’s a tricky time of year, so we’ve not hit any of our targets and we’ll just try again in 6 months time, but it might be hard then as well, so no guarantees’. You’d just be sacked!

You mean the promises from Moshiri & Big Uzzy evaporated .
Another couple of transfer windows with the players he wanted in would have had us pushing at the top end.

Not sure really especially with his input in bringing in rubbish like Allan and lack of commitment Rodriguez. He'd of brought more rejects from his previous sides on ridiculous money so he could easily of crippled us too

Football is a weird industry, possibly the weirdest.

On a similar note, you’d never hire someone (Charlie Adam) for a job that you’ve identified needed doing (set piece coach) and then if they turn out to be terrible at their job, just let them go and not try and replace them. Leaving the void you identified in the first place all over again!
