I think he just needs to feel like he belongs somewhere, he does at Palace and plays really well by all accounts, he didn't at ManU so he didn't.

I just don't think from albeit only watching a little bit of him that he doesn't look comfortable when in possession. Everything seems a bit random and I don't think he's blessed with great pace.

To be fair he did run his contract down and refuse to sign a new one.
plus as good as he is now, I think 18 is a bit young for an unproven player to be demanding to be in the First Team or else he's going to leave, especially at a 'Big Club' where there are people ahead of you.
I think eventually Fergie just played Fletcher & Raphael (was it?) in the midfield just to spite him because he'd already said he was off.
