I've got nothing against the lid. I hope he carries on as he's started. I just don't value the type of player he is as much as others do.

There's more than one way to control a midfield.

He's started well for us and next to Barry he's doing a good job. I'd still pick a fit Gibson(type) over him. They've got to be capable of doing more with the ball for me to value them at 14m.

Apart from being a bit more combative there's little difference between his game and Joe Allens.

Thats very harsh, hes nothing like Joe Allen, Joe Allen actually does nothing but pass 5 yards all game, McCarthy does so much more.

You have to understand that Martinez wants 2 players in the middle that do what Barry and McCarthy do, they just sit and do work.

Worked hard, won possesion, fought for every ball, good passing range on him, a lot more Energetic than Osman is in that role.

He's far better with the ball at his feet than I had expected too. He's managed to dribble his way out of some tight situations, something I didn't think was going to be part of his game. A little more maturity and a bit more aggression in his passing, and he's just about the complete holding midfielder.

I do though. Whatever he decides is good for me becuase I've got faith in him to do whats best for the club.

I'm just discussing my own opinion on a player. Not crying for us to sell him, or even criticising the lid. I'd love it if his game develops with us. He's got bags of character which counts for a lot.

I think it's worth remembering a bit of history when thinking about McCarthy. When Kendall first joined the club as a player, he took quite a bit of stick from the crowd (and from a certain Johnny Morrissey) for inaccurate passing, lack of creativity etc., though most agreed he had a good engine and could put in a half decent tackle.
He went on to do O.K., really.
In some ways, McCarthy reminds me of the younger Kendall. Yes, a work in progress, but lots there already. Neither Harvey nor Kendall were "the complete" midfielder but in combination with Bally, they gave us the best of midfields.

Yeah sorry I worded it wrong, wasnt having a go, your view is your view.

I get what your saying, I just dont think a player like Ozil for example would fit into the system.

I think we need somebody not too flashy whos just gonna sit and do a job.
