His shots aren't bad though, and neither is his play going forward (think he's had a few clear cut chances a few times these last few games too), and I do think he's either matching or close to Gibbo's range of passing, with Gibbo maybe overshadowing him maybe only on long passes, but we don't employ these enough nowadays anyway. That and what you said about him being injured quite a lot as well.Yeah I agree. But Barry seems to be doing that job. Young james seems to be more the box to box.
I'm like you, I'd never say any of this inside Goodison.
And I love the way he's giving it everything. I admire that. I just didn't think, and still don't, that he's a better player than Gibson for that role. Simply becuase Gibbo's range of passing and shot make him valuable going both ways. In a side having nearly 70% possesion most games that's needed.
That said Gibsons never fit and we'd be up the creek without a paddle had we not signed him so I'd be wrong on that at least.
He's young too, he might add things to his game. If, for instance, by this time next season he was capable of five assists and five league goals and passing the ball forward more I'd say we've got our moneys worth.
Also if he gets a few assists a season, for the role he's in - it's an achievement. If anything - Barkley's role is the one that should provide chances.
At least that's my opinion on things. I agree that he's a great little player anyway.
