Jagielka fears Fellaini will be sold if we receive a £20m+ offer

Disagree entirely. Gerrard in the past has scored a lot of goals in a season but it doesn't mean he was not box to box. In fact, a lot of England fans said Gerrard and Lampard were too similar to play together.

Lampard was certainly more of a box to box midfielder than most other goalscoring midfielders (Scholes for example) in his prime. He was sooooo hard-working and still is.

Disagree compleatly, i dont see what Gerrards goal scoring record has got to do with anything about where Lampard played. Two complealtley different players. Very few similarites to be honest, except they both filled their boots with goals. Gerrard was by far the more compleate player and was a box - box midfeilder. He could compeate in midfiled, drive forward in pocession, distribute, score and he was also a playmaker with vision. Lampard could do none of these things bar time his runs and finish. Same with Scholes, he was a deep lying playmaker, Lampard wasnt a playmaker at all.

I think the difficulty for England was Gerrard was such a compleate player, that he had to sacrifice and curb parts of his natural game, his playmaking and goal scoring game to try and get some of Lamapards 20 goals a season into the team - it never worked to be honest and as such England never saw the best of each in their pomp.

I see no similarities between, Gerrard, Scholes and Lampard to be honest, three very different players who had very different strengths and played the game very different ways, only similiarity really is that they scored goals in their careers. Its like likening Michael Owen to Didier Drogba.

Lampards position has always been more or less the front of a midfiled diamond, and he never veerd more south then the semi circle in his own half if they were under the cosh. Box to box - never.

Absolute rubbish!!! :) Just because Essien and the like didn't venture into the box much doesn't mean Lampard didn't venture back.

Seriously - I would be interested (other than Gerrard) who you consider to be box to box. Successful teams rarely have a maniac box to box midfielder because they are well-coached and play good, intelligent football as a team.

P.S. I've seen Lampard make 74 goal line clearances in his career and therefore together with his goals, this makes him box to box and I win and you lose and that's the way the cookie crumbles.

:)

Close the thread ffs

Fellaini is one of our most important AND skillful players. If you watch the games , either in situ or online (tv etc), he appears almost everywhere. I managed to attand the home game vs Fulham and he had a good game, even getting a goal. Anyone who says he ISN'T skilful and has no technique has obviously had too much sun this past week. Fellaini is BOSS, and must stay imo

I think you're missing the point tbqh.

He can't be worth £26m, because he can't score goals like Yaya Toure, which we all know is paramount when you're a defensive midfielder.

I personally refuse to use a player at CDM on Fifa 12 unless they have a shooting skill of 85 or higher.

Some players look ace on TV highlights, others you need to see in the flesh to really appreciate them. Fellaini falls into the latter which is why some folks can't see why we're so excited about him. He's by no means the finished article but he's hugely important to us and would be very difficult to replace.

He looks good in highlights too!

I'll be gutted if Fellaini goes elsewhere, he is my favorite player by far and the type of player who would be very difficult to replace, that said i think he really enjoys playing for the Blues and the challenges that come with it otherwise he wouldn't have signed a four year deal last year, i think he can see the potential of the team with a few new signings and wants to be a part of the future. Plus look at his ****ing hair, it's awesome.

In that case, he must be sold. He's no good if he has the shooting ability of Hibbo

* what is his shooting rating on FIFA btw :D

Excellent post Brenman, FIFA is the best way to judge any player.

I would get a team of all brazilians and put them on 4-1-2-1, they have to have minimum pace of 80 and loads of skillzzz.

Then and only then will we win the 5th place trophy.

Plus Moyles out as he plays 6-4-0, spalletti in.

Gerrard, Yaya, Viera, Keane, Mofro - prob the only ones i would consider trually box-box, maybe Essien before injury. None of them were successfull of course.

Lampard, is only / ever was, the head of a midfield diamond/second striker the whole system was built it around it hence two midfieled anchors and one up front. Not a bad player like - in fact prob the best for many years in that role, but you never here "Lamaprd sets of on another mauradeing run from the back" or "Lampard won the midfileld battle" or "Excellent tracking back and recovering tackle there by Lampard" "Great Block by Lampard", "Great vision by Lampard". He was good at timeing, coming from deep, positioning in forward areas and finishing one of the best, but he was never a box - box midfilder or a conventinal midfielder for that matter. He would never get into a team on his talent as a midfielder without his abilities going forward.

He has the engine of a 70s Lada, and looks like he gone 10 rounds solo with a kfc family feast, with a crumbling cookie. I win!
