He's a box to box midfielder alright - from opponents penalty box to goal box.

Gerrard, Yaya, Viera, Keane, Mofro - prob the only ones i would consider trually box-box, maybe Essien before injury.

Lampard, is only / ever was, the head of a midfield diamond/second striker the whole system was built it around it hence two midfieled anchors and one up front. Not a bad player like - in fact prob the best for many years in that role, but you never here "Lamaprd sets of on another mauradeing run from the back" or "Lampard won the midfileld battle" or "Excellent tracking back and recovering tackle there by Lampard" "Great Block by Lampard", "Great vision by Lampard". He was good at timeing, coming from deep, positioning in forward areas and finishing one of the best, but he was never a box - box midfilder or a conventinal midfielder for that matter. He would never get into a team on his talent as a midfielder without his abilities going forward.
