Think of the many far more talented lower league footballers that never get a Jamie Vardy type break. They end their careers largely unknown and with little money from the game.

We have a habit of promoting youth players to the first team that they wouldn’t get at any other club as they are not good enough. With less money to buy quality needs must, so youngsters are thrown in. This fella was not only given a chance here, he was then talked up by the English media as being quality (common for English players) after scoring a goal against Man U. The Qatiri funded City compounded things by throwing away money in buying him (they forked out a fortune on pap early on), this earned him a huge whack, City discover he’s [Poor language removed], Sunderland then further compound things by buying him, likely doing so because “if City bought him he must have something”, he plays for them and is the worst player in what is probably the worst team in the PL era, and sees him break a record for most appearances in a team without winning a game. They are skint but can’t get rid of him.

There could be a film made about him.

Potential for a movie treatment definitely but Mel Brooks' Producers would be the template. Find a promising athlete in mid teens, put him in a poor team and have him look OK, engineer a few unimpressive international appearances, sell to mega rich club for big money , dont let him play for a year or more then sell again to a poorer club who think 'he must have something' - player sinks into obscurity. His agent (the Producer) must have made some cash here...
