2025/26 Jack Grealish

Probably an unpopular opinion but to be honest I wouldn't sign him regardless of the fee: 31 so he's getting on so will decline sooner or later and wages would be absurd even if we got him for buttons. I don't trust our recruitment team to get it right but surely it's worth having a look round the market for a younger more affordable option.

Just a reminder that his replacement, McNeil is currently on

21 games
0 goals
1 assist

For the season.

Thats who has basically taken Grealish's playing time.

If we dont make Europe, well the queation then would need to be asked do we break the bank wage wise for Grealish. I felt he was the kind of punt to really give us a chance of Europe (a bit like Rodriguez was purchased to get us into Europe).

No European football, I think questions need to be asked about what we do with our finances.

Ability wise though, Grealish is streets ahead of 99.9% of the squad in every metric possible. Doesn't rely on pace but his in game management is better than any other outfield Everton player. Wins free kicks after free kicks, gets us up the pitch by holding onto possession and I'm confident that we'd probably see out the point against the rs and West Ham if he was in the side because he's not brain dead like the majority of the team and knows when to kill or game or when to break play up and do the dirty side.

Interesting that theres whispers of another loan. At a £12mil fee, thats the lowest risk option.

I'd rather see Ndiaye on the left but if we do bring Grealish back for 12months then we must sell McNeil and sign Grealish's replacement to bed in over the season.

But we had Lindstrom and Jack Harrison last season, surely they got more goal involvements than Grealish? 🙃

Another loan would be amazing business but he has 1 year left on his deal so not sure why City would agree to that. Unless it was a sizeable loan fee and most of his wages off the books. Honestly cant see any teams wanting to spend a decent fee on him and from what I read when he signed, he wanted to stay put where he lives. I think we have a big advantage in negotiations.

If we are signing him, we need to do it early so we know whats left to spend and also it will help attract players.

I think he was found out for pace and ideas way before he was injured. He looked despondent on the pitch too.

Only Evertonians can see a player like this and believe breaking the bank to get them is the way forward.

Someone like Iraola would refuse Grealish and go for two young direct and pacy players instead for the same price.

Why don't we just make a break with the past here and stop being sentimental and get real for once.

Those who desperately want him signed KNOW he'll break down within 6 months too.

I don’t know why every single Everton manager we have had since Royle seems to have an aversion to playing two pacy wide players. It’s one of the most fundamental ideas in football history to spread the pitch, press the ball, provide options on the counter, and beat fullbacks one on one, meaning the opposition sit deep, yet Everton manager after Everton manager are obsessed with stacking the team with slow inside forwards who like to drift infield.

Grealish Ndiaye McNeil Bernard Pienaar Osman Cleverley Siggurdson James - some good players in there but not an ounce of pace anywhere.

Grealish, Soucek, and McGinn to go with extensions for Keane, Gueye, and Coleman.

“Things will never be the same again. Except they really will.”
