It's the 'rich gulf neihhbours' that re-lit the tinderbox. Whilst Hamas, Hezbollah, Palestine and it's supporters believed they had support from Arab states, Netanyahu with his 'normalisation' speech the other day made them feel with nothing left, they had to go it alone, and something brewing over the last 25 years now seeps out through a new generation with no belief (or reason to believe) in peace.
Again, spot on.
My former Chairman was the guy that essentially founded the UAE foreign office, was ambassador to the US and the UN before he left government.
He's told me himself on multiple occasions that Arabs would sooner sit around and talk than do anything of real consequence when it comes to regional politics.
When the Qataris fell out with all the neighbours a few years ago I asked him if it would get fixed anytime soon?
"No, it won't ever be fixed. We'll just forget what started it and go back to the way it was before we fell out"
That's exactly what happened. The blockade was lifted as quickly as it was enforced.
If all these groups thought they had the support of the Gulf States, why? They've been on their own for decades, why would they think it's changed?
It sucks, but they're basically on their own. Same as always.
