If Israelis enter Gaza it gonna be slaughter there (for both sides). As comments above say they probably have thousands of fighters there just waiting and urban warfare is nightmare

Not to mention drones, cheap drones used to blow up expensive military toys. Hamas obviously payed close attention to what is going on in Ukraine and so many tanks/armored vehicles being blown up by cheap 50$ drones.

Israelis really got themselves caught up with their pants down, do wonder how that happened considering reputation of Israeli intelligence.

You have to wonder what dodgy activities mossad have been up to to take their eye off the ball so badly.
Infiltrating the labour party in the uk shouldn't have been that hard

Or maybe Netanyahu just repeated Erdogan playbook from few years ago, knew about it but allowed it to happen because it gives him excuse to crush opposition, both domestic and foreign.

TBF some of the stories coming out sound like there was an awful lot of complacency along the border - one report said there had been an open air rave close to the fence and they’d been hit whilst partying.

It is stirring up trouble, but it’s also a position that nearly everyone accepts is the only possible way this ends well.

The Israeli occupation of the territory it seized in 1967 is illegal under international law, and defending it massively undercuts (if not totally destroys) the insistence on a rules based international order.

We (especially us, as we put together the UNSC resolution that said withdrawal should occur in exchange for recognition and security) cannot have our cake and eat it any more.
 


Ah yes, Israel doing their usual trick of firing warning/not warning shots towards buildings that foreign journalists use *note the towers and dishes on the roof of the struck building*

All to get them out of the way so they can continue their usual business of shelling schools and hospitals.

This is what my suspicion. With Israeli politics continuing to lean towards the right, this gives them ample fuel to launch a counter-offensive against Gaza.

That would be to compound failure though.

They’ve gone and done that at least three times in fifteen years now and every occasion has seen them leave, Hamas left stronger and further entrenched, and Israeli politics demanding more extreme measures next time (and so electing ever more extremist lunatics).

Hamas clearly want another military confrontation in Gaza on land of their own choosing. Bibi would be an absolute idiot to give it to them. Sadly, he is an idiot.

I agree, however I also disagree. I think this could play into the hands of those who want more extreme measures - who want more political extremists.

This is going to play into the hands of the warmongers and those who will only want to cement Israeli dominance even though it may not actually create it.

What will happen however is more funding for the military, more expansion through building of Israeli housing in contentious areas and more extreme laws.

Rightly or wrongly, the death of a few hundred Israeli conscripts won't be of their concern or the businessmen and women who'll profit from this attack.
