As pointed out by others the occupation of the West Bank is illegal under international... not that international law appears to bother Netanyahu and his criminal cabinet

Jews lived there millennia ago, and in smaller numbers until about the 1920s IIRC, in Hebron. That doesn't make it "traditional Israeli territory", as the State of Israel didn't exist before 1948.


I would actually like Jews to be able to live there in a future Palestinian state. Bit idealistic, I realise.

Your trying too hard to both sides it. He wouldn't step into Daunt Square or into the speakers corner in the Fitzgerald's park and perpetuate his, its ok that kids are dying because Hamas are bad, nonsense because he knows the reception he would get. He dosent believe in his case strongly enough to do so, he just believes in it enough to troll this thread.

My contribution...this went to the authorities in Croke Park on 7th September, copied to offices of Taoiseach, Tánaiste, Leader of Sinn Fein, my local TDs and councillors. Glad so much support from GAA players as well as the public.

As a life-long supporter and player (in my youth) of GAA sports, I strongly urge that the Association cancels this event.

For such to be hosted by our Association, in the very place where another military state murdered innocent spectators and players, would be an insult to their memories and to all right-thinking Gaels.

I hope and pray that the Association acts swiftly.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't entirely clear, the point was that Jews were only the majority millennia ago. I've always maintained that Jews, Muslims and Christians have shared that land for as long as it matters.

Not twisting your words, just pointing out there are a lot of shades of grey. Just because Israel in multicultured doesn't mean they are good guys murdering children. Just because homophobia rests in positions of power in Palestine at this point in time, as it once did in ours, doesn't mean they all deserve to be carpet bombed and then denied aid

FWIW that article is extremely dubious - there is an almost racial concept of Jews / Muslims / Christians (and therefore an "othering") suggested there which is not supported by the many genetic studies that have been done of the population.

What is much more likely is that you have a relatively stable population over time which changes culture and beliefs in line with events affecting that society; some people who were Jewish after the Maccabean revolt probably had ancestors who Hellenized / Romanized as those cultures arrived / after the failure of the two great revolts against Roman rule (as well has some who didnt), some later ancestors became Christian and still later ones became Muslim at some point after the conquest. Obviously there would be the usual addition of Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Arabs and other Semitic peoples and so on but most of the descendants of the average Palestinian (and many Israelis) are going to be from that population.
