Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

The chaotic and ham-fisted Israeli government have made many controversial decisions - here's two which have evaded the attention of the various UK Jerusalem correspondents.

It's probably not well known in the west that Israel give 5,000 entry permits per month to Palestinian peacemakers to take part in conferences and shared projects. The truth is that the figure should be nearer to 25,000 per month - they would easily fill them. Instead of increasing the numbers the government have restricted the permits to allow in single people over the age of 27 and married people over the age of 22. The reason given is that some permit holders have used them to work in Israel illegally or to visit the Temple Mount.

The policy changes will obviously impact the young - those who are idealistic, intelligent enough to ignore the indoctrination and brave enough to ignore the threats from the fascist militias in the West Bank - Hamas imprison any Gazans caught talking peace on the telephone, so there is no chance of them allowing anyone to enter Israel for that purpose.

The 2nd decision was to deny Palestinians entry to Israel to participate in this week's bi-national Remembrance Day ceremony due to 'security reasons'. This is a day which commemorates all Israeli military personnel who have lost their lives fighting to establish the country and since. Some of the Palestinians - again all from the West Bank - had been scheduled to give speeches. More than 200,000 people watched the 2022 ceremony, which was live-streamed online in Arabic, Hebrew and English.

Happily, it appears that the Attorney-General has ruled that the government have no right to do this and the High Court has heeded her advice, allowing Palestinians to take part.

A West Bank resident explained why he wanted to attend: "What do we want to say in such a ceremony of Israelis and Palestinians? That we want to live without violence, without death."

Meanwhile in Hebron a number of leading businessmen and community leaders hosted an iftar meal with several Israel Defense Force officers.
Predictably it sparked an outcry among right wing Palestinians on social media, some of them regulars in the UK media, and was condemned by the likes of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the PFLP. Anything condemned by them must be a good thing.
"We believe more can be achieved through talking than through violence," said one of the participants. They were happy for cameras to be present - to get to their positions in Hebron you need to have the backing of one of the powerful clans. The armed militias won't be keen to get into a battle with them.

Another meal was hosted by the ‘Roots’ advocacy group near Gush Etzion. “We’re a group of people that wants to end the situation of violence and the hatred between members of the two populations,” said one of the Palestinian organisers.
Guest of honour at the meal was a 33-year-old Palestinian who recently rescued a Jewish couple in the West Bank when a group of Palestinians surrounded their car and pelted them with rocks. He took the couple into his home and called the police while the mob pelted his house with rocks.
Sadly the Palestinians didn't want their names publicised because of the threat of violent repercussions - one of the initiative’s Jewish organisers acknowledged there is a large degree of “resistance” to such events which can be seen as a “betrayal". Speaking at the meal he called for a “new discourse on the conflict,” adding that “99 percent of Palestinians are not attacking us.”

Elsewhere, Rabbi Leo Dee, whose wife and two daughters were recently murdered in a terror attack revealed that "Palestinian friends of mine from neighbouring villages have left messages in tears, because I’ve known them for many years, they’ve known Lucy, they’ve known the girls.”

All of this will bewilder those racists who paint all Palestinians as terrorist sympathisers or supporters of the 'armed struggle'. I include those Israelis who claim there are no 'partners for peace' amongst the Palestinians, and the River to the Sea mob who defend or ignore terrorist atrocities and claim all Palestinians support armed resistance - their absence of criticism only undermines the peace wing, which needs all the help it can get, while encouraging the right-wing militias. That, to me, is at least as bad as the shortsighted and self-defeating policies of the Israeli government.

All of the above happened in the last week - I only skimmed the surface, there's lots more - but none of it will appear in the UK media. Similarly the mass brawl and rock throwing between Hamas and Fatah supporters in the courtyard of al Aqsa Mosque that ruined afternoon prayers for thousands of worshippers, or the gunfights between some of the armed militas and the PASF. Why will none of this be covered by the UK media? Palestinian dissent against the 'armed struggle' and Palestinian on Palestinian violence - it complicates their facile predetermined narrative.

Mate, you clearly know your stuff and are very well informed however, it ALWAYS comes across that the Palestinians should be grateful for their occupiers token gestures. You rarely (never) mention illegal settlements or the hard line "israelis" tormenting and murdering Palestinians yet always mention hardline Palestinian factions.

It always feels like a really thinly veiled dig at those who have been utterly hammered by their occupiers.

Benjamin Pogrund might have "vigorously refuted" the claim in the past, but Desmond Tutu called it Apartheid about two decades ago, and he was right then. The West Bank has been split into what amount to Bantustans for that long.

Massive failure by the Israeli security forces this morning, a large scale land, air and sea attack by Hamas seems to have caught them completely by suprise.

Almost certainly lead to a war now. Dozen of air strikes already hitting Gaza.

The videos of Israeli women stripped murdered and being paraded are not going to bring anything positive.

The world really does feel like it is on the edge at the moment.

Whether people are pro Palestine or pro Israel. One thing that is obvious is that as a military force Isreal is light years ahead of Hamas or any of its backers (Iran). It can only end in one way.
