Apparently there have been big demonstrations against Netanyahu in Israel recently.

I do increasingly wonder about the motivations of the Israeli regime in this conflict, there are a lot of things that really do not make much sense - the consistent escalation, the open insults to allies, the deliberate destruction of any diplomatic settlement and political support in the West.

Even basic political things, the most blatant of which is where at least one of Netanyahu’s sons are, make you wonder how on earth he’d even stand for election again never mind win. For a man who is allegedly so focused on his own political survival that he’s leaving Israeli women and girls as hostages (with all their propaganda suggests), this is a remarkable vulnerability in any kind of free and fair election.

Netanyahu is doing a lot of things that he knows will destroy a vital plank of security for him; that could mean he thinks he will be getting that security from someone else. Of course he had (before this kicked off) good relations with Putin and still has good relations with Orban, Millei, Bolsonaro etc.

Netanyahu is in a similar boat to that of the Tories. He's damaged electoral goods, with no hope of winning the next election. All he can do is run the clock out. Doing that requires preventing a no-confidence vote, which in turn means pandering to the extremists who otherwise take him down.

If he can generate a forever war and suspend elections "for the duration of the emergency," so much the better for him. That's a tough trick to pull off in a democratic state, though, especially for a deeply unpopular leader.

It would beyond the pale to try and swallow it because the evidence is more than telling. Even if they didn't know the pre-described route, look at its markings.

That’s what they say after every “tragedy”, and nothing ends up being done.

That Israeli government has in the face of about five hours yesterday taken a massive and entirely deliberate dump all over our rules based order. Leaving them to mark their own homework over it yet again is bad; believing them will be worse.
