The organisation has stopped its kitchens in Gaza as a response to the attack, until their safety can be guaranteed. This is exactly what Israel will have wanted.

The UAE have halted their aid campaign in Gaza like the above for the same reasons; likewise, this will be what Israel have wanted all along.

Less foreign eyes in Gaza mean Israel have more freewill to do what they want, which is to exterminate any opposition in Gaza. It's all very calculated.

Israel genuinely believe they can do what they want, when they want, without anyone having the cojones to stop them.

It needs to be surgical if they do. Seeing Israel have gone full postal, their retaliation strikes would probably be enormous again. In short no one wins.

We need diplomacy to try and reel things back. Force the Israelis to call a ceasefire and withdrawal from Gaza, then give a meaningful amount of compensation to the relatives of who lost their lives and to rebuild the embassy. That probably still won't wash with the Iranians, least it would make it seem they were genuinely apologetic about the strike. And might put Iran in a position to end the war which would give them something meaningful to tell their people.

If we take out the wishful thinking, it's very hard to see how they don't end up in a full scale war from here. The tit for tat strikes will escalate until it is inevitable. If I was Iran I would be banking on the fact there is no way the US would allow Israel to use the nukes as that just legitimises Russia to do the same in Ukraine. That kind of removes the fear they might have had taking on them. What is for sure is a lot more people are going to end up being killed in that area for the square root of jack.

I think a lot depends on what happens at the SC tomorrow.

What should happen is that the SC condemns the attack on diplomatic premises, notes the previous resolution and orders Israel to take no further escalatory measures.

I hope so but I seriously doubt Israel will take any notice of the UN SC.

The sad reality is that only the US acting unilaterally (cutting off funding, weapons, and tech development programmes for Israel) will have any impact on Israeli actions.
