As an aside dave that task force is one of the best things we could do to help - one of the ships (RFA Argus) still has the capability of acting as a casualty receiving ship, it could provide urgently needed medical help if coordinated with nearby countries (Egypt, Cyprus etc).

Hamas is using them as human shields you know it. It's complicates things horribly. If Hamas would care about them they would do everything in their power to move them safe. But as we know it benefits their cause if civilian casualties pile up.

Hamas is a terrorist group and I do not expect any firm commitment to humane behaviour or the rule of law from them. Bibi's government is also distasteful and treats the law as an option. I expect more of Western governments and although I think that they will be calling for restraint via back channels and private calls there are children, pregnant women, and an innocent population suffering being trapped in a warzone. It is not acceptable. Bibi needs to get an offer that he cannot refuse or the whole region risks blowing.

I think his hand is going to be forced by the regional powers, who will demand he either stops this or they will tear up the deals they have with the US across the region and start messing with the energy supplies.

Biden is now between a rock and a hard place. Do you:

a) Advance America's global interests, which only a tiny minority of Americans understand, by breaking with Israel on this before things get worse. This spots Trump Florida, and Blinken probably resigns on the spot, but it avoids the risk of a catastrophic foreign policy failure that loses the election before it even begins.
b) Chase the Florida votes, reasoning that a Trump reelection will do far more harm to American interests, and blame the Arabs for increased fuel prices.

This is not an easy practical politics call.

They probably are. I've been thinking ever since the evacuation order that, if I were running defense strategy for Hamas, I would move into every hospital north of the evacuation line and use them as observation posts at a minimum. The doctors don't even have to know, if done right.
