Would you even trust Israel not to immediately restart the bombing as soon as they get their people back? They've proven themselves to be conniving, sly rats so it's hardly something where you'd have confidence of a successful outcome.

Also they'd (Israel) probably claim there are still hostages being held as a reason to continue bombing, even though they've publicly came out and said it's 199 people.

What we've learned in the last fifty years is that first-past-the-post is fatally flawed in the era of television. The democracies that function these days have proportional representation, or some sort of mixed electoral system. Forcing an electorate into false binary choices just results in a race to the bottom.

There would still be hostages, because there's no way they'll cough up all those Palestinians in return for the soldiers at this stage of the game.

IMO it's a clever poison pill to torpedo a deal while making the Israelis look bad. That's just my read of the offer, mind.
