As for Putin, I’d have a lot more agreement with him if he hadn’t made a career out of doing exactly what Bibi does - delegitimise opponents, create crises, and then use them to advance his agenda.

If he genuinely wanted to get rid of NATO he could have done it years ago, entirely peacefully and with the blessing of Europe.

Not sure I agree with this, in the sense that leaders in the West would never trust a former KGB colonel any further than they could throw him.

It's little different in the Israel-Palestine conflict. One major pathway to the prime minister's position in Israel is the military and/or holding down the job of defense minister, so most of them end up in the job with Palestinian blood on their hands. The pathway to Palestinian leadership always has been littered with Israeli corpses. This is not a method of leadership selection that engenders trust between the parties.

If they can find a way to overcome the trust problem, the good news is that the signaling against type will tend to drag people along with them, in much the same way that only Nixon can go to China.

No, they wanted discord on the Palestinian side of the fence. Get them fighting each other, and they end up too busy doing that to fight you. More or less how the British Empire was run, most places. Debatably, this is also why so much money goes into keeping the culture war fires stoked.

The Israelis didn't 'create' Hamas, but they helped bankroll them from relatively early days with that objective in mind.

That’s not how the British Empire was run - that was run much more along the lines of the Romans, in that local elites or others were co-opted into the governing structure and helped to run things.

Yup. My worry as well. US has just deployed additional sqns of F15-E and A-10’s to its airbase in UAE.

2 carrier battle groups on task and Iran threatening all sorts.

Could go bendy very quickly
