The Israeli state failed and now the Gazan's have to pay for it with their lives.

I hope to God not, but I can imagine there's a ratio the Israelis have in mind in terms of death toll suffered by each side.

Since 2008 6,400 Palestinians and 300 Israelis have been killed in conflicts, according to the UN. I fear they'll be looking to keep that proportion.

Sadly dave I think you are making the mistake of thinking some of the people around Netanyahu would ever stop.

Hamas could right now hand over all the hostages, stand down and the deliver leaders behind Saturday’s attack to justice and at least three ministers would be still saying that they should take this opportunity to deal with Gaza once and for all.

Oh yeah, I have no illusions about what nazis are capable off. They'll look to kill 30,000 Gaza's by one means or another and expel 500,000.

You'd hope that there would be general understanding that Hamas are doing terrorist things and should rightfully be brought to justice, but those poor Palestinian people are just trying to get on with their lives and survive. Dropping a bomb or firing a bullet anywhere near a child, never mind a million is an absolute disgrace and failure. There would be a better chance for empathy through dialogue but these leaders don't care for people.

My parents visited Gaza, The West Bank and Israel last year and they told me what they saw and how the Palestinians are treated.

Hamas didn't evolve in a vacuum.

There's atrocities committed by both sides but it's shocking to me how in a lot of western media Israel is painted as a blameless victim so often when they've penned people in, stolen their land and houses, and denied them access to basic human rights like water.

As horrible as it is to read what's happened to Israeli children there were Palestinian kids being shot by the IDF for years for picking up stones or just being in line of sight. That's going to breed a violent hatred in the populace and you can't react with shock and outrage when they respond after provocation.
