Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

It is a valid question to ask - the event was (according to this report) never meant to be held there originally and was moved at very short notice (two days before it was due to start, so three days before the attack) from elsewhere in southern Israel.

Why would any security agency say it was a good idea to hold a multi-day festival there?
Really moved at such short notice and it would appear that it was clearly targeted rather than advancing swiftly to secure barracks, settlements etc.
Hamas either got lucky or has made staggering leaps in their intelligence capabilities.

When you have a people so under your boot that you control their water supply (and ensure it’s mostly toxic), their electricity supply, and their food supply, and effectively have them in a open air prison, then it’s not a shock you’d get overconfident.

For what it’s worth I’m completely against what they did in this attack to civilians, but it is something that was always going to happen eventually as a result of their atrocious acts which have been going on for over 50 years against the Palestinians.

The additional issue is that most of the western media have conveniently forgotten Israel deliberately targeting Red Cross facilities, sniping children, murdering press officials, firing live rounds into crowds of peaceful protesters and bombing hospitals.
I completely agree.

It's a vile regime and should be completely abandoned and boycotted to force it to its knees.

Those people at the rave: I have every sympathy with their families, but talk about rubbing a downtrodden people's noses in it by setting up a rave within spitting distance and whooping it up so close to a population that's been ground into the dust was a moronic thing to do...and many of them paid for it with their lives.

I was under the impression that this incident is a bit unprecedented.

I could be wrong.

But is it not similar to ask why the AUF decided to hold a Summer Camp in 2011?

That event was a yearly thing, and it was already going on when he started.

I am not a fan of that particular site, and that article is a good example of why - I mean, yes obviously external actors are going to use this conflict to further their own aims but nowhere does it even mention that dealing with the blatant injustice of the occupation is an option.

Its either go to the mattresses to protect the Israeli government irrespective of what its actually doing, or be wiped out on a civilizational level.
I suppose if you viewed it through the lens of an activist you might be prone to ignore the thrust of the tactics described in a bigger strategic picture.

They have. But this will awaken them again like we haven’t seen……
All regimes end. No state necessarily remains all powerful in a region. The Israeli state is only 75 years old. Its a blink of an eye in historical terms.

Maybe this is the beginning of the end for it. Hopefully.

I often wonder what living in Israel must be like for the average Joe. (Not the ultra right wing settlers, but maybe a kinda slightly left-leaning office worker or something like that)

Do you think they just ignore it, or pretend it isn’t happening? Do they look at them like far too many people here look at the homeless? Are they scared of them due to the propaganda?

It’s mad to me, how you could be living your life happily cracking on, while knowing there is such unimaginable suffering just a few miles away, and it’s pretty much directly being caused by your government.

I think the broader point was why look to the festival runners? Had the festival occurred at planned site one, it could well have been ambushed just as if not more easily. Possibly a more apt 'question' could have been, 'why focus on butchering a load of youths dancing to some music?', if there's a grievance with the militaristic tendencies and oppression of a certain regime, hammer the ones in uniform doling out the violence by order.
My problem with the hamas method of a load of rockets sent from palestine, they knew exactly what the reply would be so to come the soft flannel of isn't the reprisal terrible (although it is) rings rather hollow. It's blood for blood over generations. There is no healing.

If I was one of them I'd leave the country.

Who ok'd a rave party right in front of the Gazan's noses, that's what I have to ask.

Why not. It wasn’t some anti-Palestinian rave, it was mostly kids, the sort of whom are our own daughters and sons, just having a music festival and enjoying themselves. It may also happen on the other side of the border for all you know. The difference is that 260+ kids don’t normally get shot, picked off in groups or killed one by one while trying to hide…absolute barbarism and no excuse…..
