Is Arteta Acctually As Good As Everyone Thinks?

My honest theory about Arteta.

He has unlimited potential in my eyes.

His problem is that at best he will only ever be a better player than the second best player on the pitch. He never seems to excel and shine. He only ever seems to do"just enough" to stand out(like I said, this is when he is on form).

We have never seen the best of him. I doubt if anyone ever has.

I rate him highly, but the way he seems to limit his own exertions is probably the one and only reason he has not been picked for Spain yet.

It's because we stick him outwide, mate. I know you've mentioned that before aswell.

It's like asking someone like Fabregas for example to play on the right wing and boss a game. It's never going to happen.

If we played him in the middle he'd improve and we'd see alot more from him. That's my opinion anyway. People double mark him outwide and it's getting harder and harder for him to get involved.

with Fellaini and Cahill by his side, yes.

but what about the rest? will we play with one or two upfront? with wing players also? or with a back five with two wing backs?

Thanks for remembering my past comments TB. Much appreciated.

I agree with all in this post also.

Well said. (I would have repped but I need to be more spreadable)

Osman-----Fellaini-----Arteta-----Pienaar

------------------Cahill-----------------

---------------Yakubu/Saha------------

Like that or this:

Osman-----Fellaini-----Arteta-----Pienaar

------------Saha-----Yakubu------------

A nicely thought out opinion Gaz, I like that. I'd like to add that all the people that complain about his running infield with the ball and how it goes nowhere piss me off. It is GOOD PLAY, he's trying to play proper football. I actually don't mind him on the wings as much as some, he's our only player that can beat a man. It is true tho, if we had a better team (especially out wide) and he was in the middle he could be an amazing player.

I am with you on that mate. The fact that it is good play would be more apparent if his team mates had his footballing brain and vision and read his intentions. Then there would be more continuing what he tries to start. But they will never have the chance to learn whilst he is limited to one wing.

Sometimes the best players can look bad if they are better than their colleagues. Passes will always look bad ones if players don't share vision. You can't teach that train of thinking, and as most teams, creative players are hard to come by. If we had more like minded people Arteta would thrive. I am confident of that.

To be honest he's stopped running at fullbacks, I've noticed it all season and it dissapoints me. The only game he did it in was Liege at Home and his play from open play was superb.

Maybe the injury did effect him physically, he doesn't seem to want to run with the ball anymore. He puts his foot on it and looks for the pass. This is the main reason I want him in the middle.

If he played like he used to do on the wings I'd be happy with him outwide but I'm not seeing it.

A lot of things disappoint you these days, I'm a bit worried to be honest.

You're right tho, he hasn't done his classic quick slow quick BOOM thing for ages. He hardly gets the space these days as well, the way teams double up on him. It does creates loads of room for Neville on the overlap tho. Come on Mikel, I hope he goes nuts tomorrow.
