Is Arteta Acctually As Good As Everyone Thinks?

A lot of things disappoint you these days, I'm a bit worried to be honest.

You're right tho, he hasn't done his classic quick slow quick BOOM thing for ages. He hardly gets the space these days as well, the way teams double up on him. It does creates loads of room for Neville on the overlap tho. Come on Mikel, I hope he goes nuts tomorrow.

It's been a rough season, I think it's got to me.:dodgy:

You're right about his lack of space, he's probably our only player who is double upped on. Moving to the left has helped a bit but even then we aren't seeing enough of him.

Move him to the middle I say...

Forget this Kirby debacle. Lets have a new campaign.

You know. It might just work.

Arteta is an important player, a good player, but he's never ever going to play for spain, he's nowhere near as good as the spanish internationals

I'd actually disagree with that from the standpoint of his form.

When he's on top form, he's every bit as good as Xavi or Iniesta. Believe it.

Problem is that he's not on top form, you're right, he's not good enough to be in the Spanish squad.

Something about consistency comes to mind.

Something is obviously troubling him. You don't consistently under perform unless you are very unhappy with something in life or at work.

i beleive there a couple of factors to his poorish form the hole teams missing lee carsley his holding play was 2nd to none coupled with the formation/personnel changes havent helped at all in a 5 man mid he seems to find more time an space and is afforded a more free role in a 4 man mid he for me can struggle to influence the game and the defenceive side of the game also stiffles his natrual game

The midfield balance isn't there yet, I think we can all see that from our performances this year. We have to remember that without some allies in midfield it becomes very easy for teams to double up on Arteta and mark him out of the game.

i agree

I think Fellaini will come good but we're talking about the situation thus far this season. The midfield hasn't gelled yet. The last few games have shown that few of the players currently in midfield aren't good at keeping the ball so clubs know that focus has to be put on Arteta as he's probably the only one that can do this right now.

Exactly this - he gets marked out of games time and time again as other teams know he is our only creative outlet.

Shame we haven't got just one more player who can jink and turn as well as he does, we'd do a lot better imo.

I scracth my head sometimes in terms of people being critical of Artetas form i think hes been consistent this year his stats are as good as the top prem midfeilders.

Ok, perhaps its fair to say that he hasnt been at his sublime best, why is this well for me a couple reasons:

A) He is fairly identifiable as Evertons major creative threat and as such hes easy to mark out of a game tacticly.

B) He has no compition for his place.

C) Our style of play, in the sense we dont play a creative brand of imaginitive football, yes we pick up points but our brand of football is effective rather then creative. That is not a criticisim by the way.

D) Squad changes,

E) The team and perhaps us as fans put a massive burden of onus and responsibility on him to be the key, if we are berefit of ideas and lets face it creatively most of the time we are shove it out to Arteta to do something with it. Its not rocket sceince for us or the opposition to work out and counter. He cant create something out of nothing everytime.

pienlaar can take a lot of expectation/pressure off him when he plays, if osman and pielaar are running at defences, then he has a bit more space. we are due a big game from him and lets hope tonight is the night, you have to play a blinder when you wear hi vis ffs.
