This is the Eire Nua concept proposed from the 1980s by Ruairi O’Bradaigh.

It hinges on the Unionist Population accepting that they not only have a place in an agreed future but also an opportunity to inform its future direction.

The Unionist elected representatives have refused to even countenance this ideal never mind even have it as a discussion point.

Note how the Alliance Party, the front of the NIO, welcome discussions regarding a border poll.

An exit strategy.

I think I'll stick a Wolfe Tones album on and see in the new year. A belt of the celts.

I think Eire Nua was boobalooks then and it remains boobalooks tiday, Army :)

Honestly, we don't even want them back. And take Roscommon too ffs
Was that tongue in cheek or are you being serious?

If the latter, are there many of that persuasion in Eire?

I've often wondered at the the desire to take on board a province that is economically challenged and where the population is so divided on so many fronts.

I think if you took a vote here, people would overwhelmingly want a united Ireland. I actually wouldn't consider myself particularly zealous on this issue compared to some of my friends (I would hope they would only do it with majority consent from the people of Northern Ireland) but certainly my preference would be a united island with all of those ugly green roadsigns still using the miles metric torn down in a Berlin Wall style catharsis

Like how this has been put to the back of news. There should have been a subsequent referendum to say as a consequence of brexit are you happy to see the break up of the UK also.

Yeah, that's what I originally thought. Agree the majority in NI would need to be in favour first.

To an outsider like me, Irish Unity is an ideology that will come with an initial cost, financially, culturally and logistically. Same with Scottish Independence if that ever get's voted in. Do you not think there are some parallels with those Brexit voters who are prepared to suffer some hardships in the cause of sovereignty?

Like Scotland if they wish to leave, they take a portion of the U.K. national debt which for NI would be about £57Bn...
