Or 1974 all over again. For Sunningdale Agreement read Regulatory Alignment.

Or 1986 all over again. For Anglo-Irish Agreement read Customs Union.

"NO, NO, NO." Some things never change.

1998 all overagain.....for Good Friday Agreement read Backstop.

It really is terrible what the native Irish people in the north east corner of Ireland have had to put up with for over a century.

Fair play to An Taoiseach, Mr. Varadkar, whom has stood by his pledge that they will “not be left behind again”.

The irony is not lost on me that it is a Fine Gael leader with Asian antecedents whom is proving to be such a stout defender of the rights of all the people in Ireland, 32 of 32.

One could not see Bruton, Cosgrove or Fitzgerald facing Ulster Unionism down the way Leo is.

I've always though that NI and even more so Ireland, will actually be the main beneficiaries of Brexit, while it may not seem like it so far

Ireland are a full EU member state, have shown loyalty to EU throughout, had no influence on Brexit, no responsibility

But they also have the GFA which protects an open border with UK and also protects link to the UK. It might suit the EU to shut up shop, but Ireland would suffer massive economic harm, so a trade deal with UK is only logical if EU don't want 1

If talks break down, Ireland would only have to suffer the limited measures EU could impose on a compliant member dealing with the fallout of failed EU negotiations

But the more barriers at Calais, the more trade could divert through the Irish triangle. There's a possibility that Ireland could be better off from no deal between UK and EU if they can keep or replace GFA

Except I think this time society has moved on and any crap from the loyalists will be shown up for what it is. Like their lovely fleg protests!
What it means is that any change to the status quo is going to upset one side or the other.

Either we have borders of some sort coming back or NI stays aligned to the EU which Unionism sees as a threat.

It has taken a lifetime to get to the position agreed in the GFA 20 years ago and I honestly never thought I would see that when I was growing up.

Thanks to Johnson and his Brexiters it looks like all the progress we have achieved will be chucked in the bin. They will never be forgiven.

There are no beneficiaries to brexit other than currency shorters.
