I think you'll find the majority of people dont want a united ireland

That may or may not be true.

But most want to stay in the EU and that fact would most likely get the United Ireland option over the line.

And that realisation is what is making the DUP wind its neck in and soften its stance toward May's deal.

A deal which is excellent for NI and which suits both sides.

A majority of people in NI, which is dwindling year after year. It's only a matter of time and Brexit will accelerate the process. If you asked the people in the rest of the UK for their opinion you would find that a majority were in favour.

Those who don't want it would be better off planning now for as favourable a future arrangement as possible with the rest of the people on this island rather than digging their heels in and relying on the Tory party to uphold the Unionist veto on progress.

Just been watching the 'Bordering on Brexit' programme. It would break your heart seeing how this issue is already affecting border communities even before anyone knows what the outcome will be. I would be great if it could be shown in Britain so that people there would actually become more aware of the damage that this will cause.

So Karen Bradley claims that killings by State forces during the Troubles were not crimes. This despite the overwhelming evidence that has come to light that State forces colluded with paramilitaries to do their killing for them.

Conveniently.... 'the remarks come a week before the Public Prosecution Service in Northern Ireland is due to tell relatives of 14 civilians shot dead by soldiers on Bloody Sunday in Derry in January 1972 whether any of the killers will face charges. There are also ongoing inquests into the killings of ten people during three days of shootings in the Ballymurphy area of west Belfast in 1971. Families of the victims believe all were killed by soldiers.'

It also follows remarks by Gen Sir David Richards, the ex-head of the UK's armed forces as chief of the defence staff, stating "Bloody Sunday was part of a war. "

People get killed in wars don't they ? But maybe on just one side it is a crime and on the other it is not ?

Resign now Bradley. Your comments were designed to appease the DUP because they are propping up your government, and they are insulting to the victims. You haven't a clue what you are talking about.

Not forgetting the family of Pat Finnucane wiped the floor with the British Government last week in the high court for much the same reason.

Indeed.

The son of murdered solicitor Pat Finucane, John Finucane, tweeted that her original comments were "indefensible".

"Legally, politically and morally indefensible, yet is it really surprising to hear a [secretary of state] publicly express the contempt we know the British [government] had for lives here?"

Sir Desmond de Silva QC said the state had facilitated Pat Finucane's killing and made relentless efforts to stop the killers being caught in a 2012 review of the murder proposed by the then prime minister David Cameron.

She's a disgraceful hobgoblin. As you say, that was designed to appease the DUP ahead of a Commons vote on the Brexit plan put forward by Britain's worst post war prime minister...and there's some stiff competition for that title.

I have said this before and Ms Bradley’s comments serve to underline it.

This disgusting and unholy alliance of mainstream Tories, the looney tunes in the ERG wing of the party and the DUP are making rebels of even the most moderate of Nationalists in NI.

And do not think her remarks were not calculated.

It is no coincidence that these outrageous remarks come a few days before the ruling on whether or not the killers on Bloody Sunday should face criminal prosecution.

The woman is blatantly trying to pervert the course of justice.

She is also flying in the fact of legal precedent, established in UK courts.

Mark Wright, James Fisher, Lee Clegg and Ian Thain. serving soldiers and in uniform on the streets of Belfast, were found guilty of murdering unarmed civilians on the streets of that city.

Guilty of committing “crimes” Karen Bradley, if you will.

(Clegg’s murder conviction was overturned on appeal and a second conviction for wounding another person in the incident overturned on a technicality but the incident was then and is regarded still by NI police as a “crime” perpetrated by serving British soldiers)

The Miami Showband massacre was carried out by, among others, Harris Boyle and Wesley Somerville, both serving soldiers in the Ulster Defence Regiment, in uniform and killed when the bomb they were planting in the musician’s mini bus exploded prematurely.

Two other serving UDR soldiers were convicted of this murderous outrage and jailed in NI.

And so on and so on.

Ergo Bradley is either pig ignorant and unsuitable for her brief or she just does not care about the lives of Irish people..

I suspect it is both.

Like the Brexiteers would care, Mark o_O

Guess who was nodding in agreement when she made the comments in the HOC (which she has now desperately backtracked on.....)

Clue: he isn't clean shaven...

Just been listening to that plug ugly pig Francois from the ERG on Newsnight. Supporting the first claims of Bradley and banging on about "Sinn Fein-IRA" like his brothers in the DUP.

Imagine a country like this run by scum like that?

With a heavy heart I believe that the referendum result should be respected - as a democrat. However, if Brexit was lost I'd be delighted just because it'd destroy vermin like him and the rest of the cockroaches in that ERG - a group who wouldn't give a flying one if bodies started to pile up in NI again.

Interesting Poll in today’s Irish Times re attutudes in Ireland, north and south, to the current state of Brexit play.

The Poll shows that voters acoss the board in NI are unhappy with the antics of both the British Government and the DUP and the Poll indicates that given a second referendum, the majority to Remain would be even higher than it was in 2016.

Most interesting for me though is the attitude among Catholic/Nationlist voters in the Six Counties toward Sinn Fein.

A whopping 64% want Sinn Fein to take their seats at Westminster and the party’s Northern leader, Ms. Michelle O’Neill, has only a 13% approval rating.

That's from all voters including Unionists so its not surprising.

That figure is significantly higher from Nationalist voters only.
