Channel 4 news had an awful video of 4 blokes battering a male student (he looked about 20), the gang was called off by a nearby rozzer, the film stopped, then he shot the kid in the head. Like watching the nazis in 'the world at war', just updated sort of by about 20 years. Particularly nasty.

But the "west" is responsible for Ayatollah rule.
The Shah was a puppet head of state set up by the Americans after their help in overthrowing the previous democratically elected leader.(for access to oil)
Not all Iranians wanted the westernised lifestyle that came with the Shah, or indeed the police state that kept the opposition down.
This opened the way for the extremist factions to eventually overthrow the Shah regime.
Thus leading to the ayatollahs.
