Key Takeaways:

  • Iran: Iran launched a large-scale drone and missile attack from Iranian territory that targeted Israel from Iranian territory.
  • The IRGC Navy seized a Portuguese-flagged, Israeli-linked commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, likely as part of its campaign to impose an unofficial blockade on Israel
  • Northern Gaza Strip: The IDF Air Force conducted an airstrike targeting Palestinian fighters in Beit Hanoun.
  • West Bank: The IDF announced that it found the body of the missing 14-year-old Israeli boy in the West Bank near Malachi HaShalom. Israeli media is widely reporting that Israeli settlers committed acts of violence in at least eight Palestinian towns in the northern West Bank after the IDF found the missing boy’s body.
  • Southern Lebanon and Golan Heights: Lebanese Hezbollah conducted at least 12 attacks from southern Lebanon into northern Israel.

Gaza Strip

Axis of Resistance objectives:

  • Erode the will of the Israeli political establishment and public to sustain clearing operations in the Gaza Strip
  • Reestablish Hamas as the governing authority in the Gaza Strip

It’s just “ a starter for ten “ as far as the Iranians are concerned. It’s not really a serious, all out, attack. That’ll come if the Israelis decide to up the ante.
I think they will up the ante - their objective for decades has been to go to war with Iran and involve the US in the war on their side. The way things are at the moment the situation will be way too tempting for them. They’re foolish in the extreme. This will involve them in a forever war with a large chunk of the Middle East. Iran can’t be occupied or pacified as if it was Gaza or the West Bank.

Hopefully the Americans will be able to convince Israel to restrain themselves

Yes, the idea that Iran is anything like Gaza, Syria, or Iraq will quickly become apparent. My fear is that this could go nuclear. Two extremist regimes going head-to-head is good for nobody. Biden has a lot to answer for. His pandering to the head-banger Netanyahu means he has no leverage with Israel or credibility with Iran.

Israel has just given up ALL of its air defence positions in the whole of the middle east region, along with the US.

I've seen this a lot today, but it really does not ring true - most of these launchers are mobile and the fixed elements are well known to everyone.

It would be more correct to say that the capabilities of the Israeli / US air defence system against a mass attack are now more known, but given that this is (IIRC) the largest multi-spectrum drone and missile attack in history (at least against a modern networked air defence system) the learning there has probably informed the Israelis / Yanks much more than anyone else.

I’d rather we abandoned Israel to their fate and they absolutely deserved what happened to them last night after their illegal bombing of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, but secretly at least, the top table in the ME can tolerate Israel and would rather have them than Iran as neighbours.
Other than the Sunni/Shi'ite aspect where is the proof of this division? Israel isn't just on it's own, it's seen for what it is, a western proxy. How many ME countries have suffered from Western interference, knowing that Israel as an illegal nuclear presence, has a much closer proximity weapons wise?
