The Israelis want it to kick off big time so it binds the USA closer to them. Obvious really. You don’t have to be a descendent of Von Clausewitz to be able to see that. That’s what all these provocations are about.

I won't link it here, but even the primary English language newspaper of the Iranian regime made that point today - that these escalations are clear attempts to sucker the US into the war on Israel's side.

As an aside it may be that they've also (interestingly) subtly changed their messaging about the US as well, holding the US responsible for facilitating Israel rather than suggesting Israel is a US proxy (as I am sure they used to in the past).

You should be arsed, what the Israeli government have done puts the diplomatic premises of every country at risk of attack.

The UNSC should have condemned any and all attacks on such premises earlier this week, including criticising the country that carried out this attack. If there wasn't a clear commitment to never do this ever again and recompense proffered immediately then sanctions and other measures should be brought in against them.

This was almost certainly intended to provoke an escalation that drew in other parties too, and those parties should really seriously consider further entertaining the government that did this on top of everything else that government has done. Netanyahu is not worth the lives of a single US, UK, EU or other soldier; if the Iranian reaction is aimed at Israeli interests only I would hope we would not entertain the thought of helping that government out.

I don’t think you quite understood me when I said I’m not even arsed.

So I’ll repeat myself - I’m not arsed whether one bunch of murdering rats decides to kill another bunch of murdering rats.

Any response Iran makes will be proportionate and measured. No-one is going to start flinging nukes about or escalating this to a major regional powers war just because of this incident.
