I just think it amazing that Sunni Muslim ISIS use a couple of kamikaze bomb vests to blow up Shia Muslims in Iran, then claim to have done so, yet a few on here are doing somersaults to try and blame either the Americans or even ourselves. Perhaps they could just recognise that Sunni’s and Shiites hate each other, always have done, without tying themselves in knots trying to suggest is was the big bad Americans. It’ll be Brexit next I expect……
I get what you are saying Pete, and we are in a big finger pointing contest for multiple issues but its worth noting in among all this geopolitical skullduggery, that Hamas, Iran's proxy is Sunni, and that Iran is Shia. Iran and Qatar share the worlds largest natural gas field, the South Pars/North Dome field. Also the Saudi (Sunni) Qatar (Sunni) spat was because Saudi called out Qatars funding of state sponsored terrorism in the region, such as Hamas.

Complex isn’t it…mind you Hamas could be an American Catholic group and Iran would still fund them to attack Israel…….

I was looking at starting a job working on a gas line 10-12 years a go in north west Iran-Iraq-Turkey-Syria. Now their plan was build a new gas pipe to Europe to start selling their cheaper gas. It was at this time that Isis formed and their first task was to disrupt this work and attack Syria..

Obviously conspiracy theories allowing, this was the main reason that the US funded Isis initially.

It's ALWAYS over oil and gas. Always.

*Kurdistan area. That's where it was to be working. I quickly got a call that works had been abandoned! Was gutted as the money was going to be unreal. I'd rather keep my head though I guess..

How much more pressure can be exerted in the current hot spot before hell breaks loose?

Something is going to give, and God help us when it does.

Feels like Iran is controlling the play here and drawing in the US.

I disagree - based on what limited reports we have had from the Red Sea (which itself is a bit of a red flag), the Houthis seem to be stopping / hitting ships that are linked to Israel.

We are not pledged to defend Israeli interests, our shipping has not been attacked (save this incident with HMS Diamond on Wednesday about which not much is known), and the position of our allies in the region is clear - yet we are apparently discussing military strikes. Why are we doing this?

The latest attacks were directed against US warships and HMS Diamond. Combined UAV, USV and ballistic missiles

Also they’re targeting any vessel attempting transit of the Red Sea. The Maersk vessel that got hit was Singapore owned carrying cargo to Egypt - That’s why Singapore got involved in all of this.

What started as an anti-Israeli operation by the Houthis has escalated into something much bigger and can only be controlled and directed by Iran.
