it's not tho.Being a professional warrior has been an honorable trade for the overwhelming majority of human history.
Still is, even in this totally post-war enlightened era where we obviously have it all figured out. How those people are used and sacrificed is a different discussion.
I agree with the WWI rationale, however like @tsubaki mentioned the US were forced into their involvement in Europe/Mediterranean by Hitler's declaration of war.WW1 - they joined in when the European adverseries had just about decimated each other. Why did they join in? They had nothing against Imperial Germany.
They realised that French/British industry was worn out and they saw great business opportunities. Look at the US companies that came to UK after that war; Ford,GM, Mars, Singer, Kelloggs. etc.
WW2 - well the Japs zapped them in the Pacific.
In N Africa and in Europe they had no need to join other than Churchill's pleading. (the holacaust had not been discovered in 1942). They sold weapons and arms to UK before that, and charged a price that took 50 years to pay off the debt.
Having said that, if the merrycans hadn't joined in then I think the Soviets would have first beaten the Germans, then over run the rest of western europe right to the atlantic coast.
Hey, perhaps Roosevelt's advisors saw that coming too.![]()
Its what comes afterwards is my problem. Look how long it took Japan and Germany after the 2nd world war to be completely autonomous again... Germany was literally under Dictatorship for 11 years and it took decades of occupation and policy to turn the country back.WW1 - they joined in when the European adverseries had just about decimated each other. Spent six years in the military, neither I or my colleagues considered it an honourable profession, it was a job. Nursing and Teaching are far more honourable in my opinion. It's not a different discussion or it's not an honorable profession?
The Germans had U-boats in the Gulf of Mexico within weeks/months of the declaration of war and more than 50 ships (including the passenger ship Robert E Lee - killing 25 passengers in July 1942) were sunk/damaged from Texas to Florida, including one in the mouth of the Mississippi River.Yup. I grew up on Long Island, so those tales are more vivid to me, but you’re absolutely correct regarding sub activity in the Outer Banks
the firstIt's not a different discussion or it's not an honorable profession?
it's not stupidity, it's deliberate. They know exactly what they're doing. Its what comes afterwards is my problem. Look how long it took Japan and Germany after the 2nd world war to be completely autonomous again... Germany was literally under Dictatorship for 11 years and it took decades of occupation and policy to turn the country back.
Now we expect countries who have been under tyrannical control for generations to have their controlling regime taken out and expect them to embrace democracy overnight, words fail me of our stupidity.
Iran have done the sensible thing and admitted they shot down the plane due to human error
It just seems to me that wherever Trump moves the line, his followers will move with it. It's hard to fathom how such a clueless idiot has you all enthralled
