If mercenaries want to leave let them. Our priority should be MOYES.

I know my history, and it makes my heart go "ohhhhhhhhh" because we won things, not because we stayed up when we had a decent squad and little spending power.

That's right.

By that measure, David Moyes is probably one of the most successful managers in the history of this league.

But he's not though...because he's won [Poor language removed] all when he's had plenty of chances to.

A final, two semi finals and the 07/08 European season where we didn't bother our arses to turn up at a vital away leg...not to mention God knows how many times we've been knocked out of cup competitions by a bunch of f*cking no marks.

Not really acceptable for a team who's hard earned history of winning is up there with the best, regardless of whether or not we've got a pot to piss in.

This "it's the taking part that counts because we've got no money therefore we'll never win a cup" attitude is embarassing.

I think i'm supporting Chester FC sometimes listening to you lot, you probably sit there watching us get battered by Bolton at home silently grinning because "it's better than the Smith days".

Agree, Humans are greedy and will take the highest offer but there are those players who will push a move(lescott) and hand in transfer requests in(Rooney), refused to play for their teams(dempsey) , just cos they earn millions they should still commit to the contract and act like Gentlemen.

Commit to their contract? Contracts go two ways though. Imagine if, say, Bily refused to move on and said he wanted to stay until his contract ran out? People would be up in arms because we'd be lumbered with an inconsistent bit-part player and with no money to reinvest at the end of it all. We'd probably not have bought Jelavic either.

No Moyes =

no Pienaar's and Artetas for 1 million, no darron gibsons for 500 k, no colemans for 200 k, no jelavics for 6 million, no jagielka's/lescott's/baines' for 5 million, no cahills for 2 million

it's alright though lets bring in a hack of a manager so we can enjoy an era of joey bartons, wright-phillips and gary caldwells

Bily £9m , yak £11.25m and per koldrup £5m off the top of my head . Plenty of managers but well albeit plenty but badly as well. Moyes has done a very food job for us but i don't but into this 'messiah' stuff.

Moyes tried to buy two of then by the way, well in swp's case loan with a view to buy.

can you prove this in any way shape or form. NO you don't know, you are debating a point on sheer speculation with no basis in fact whatsover. How in hell do you know a different manager wouldn't of bought players just as good? how do you know another manager might not have assembled a better squad for less quicker than 10 years? how do you know another manager wouldn't have won anything? answers on a postcard please.

I agree with the OP, tbh. I can see why others think differently, but I don't think we'd do better and for good reason as I've said so many times I can no longer be arsed going into it.

Either way, he'd have been gone last October if many blues (who I bet are now singing his praises again) had had their way, like. Who would we have gone for? I don't even want to know, tbh.

Who have you got in mind? They all start with the same basics.. A squad and a budget, Moyes had a poor squad and virtually no budget when he started.
Surely, since he had no massive budget to influence things, you can therefore compare him to everyone else who's started with a low budget low qauality team in the last 10 years.. Therefore the list of managers who have started similar and acheived the criteria you mentioned must logically be the ones that are better.
Who has started with a poor squad, no money and created a better squad than Moyes, cheaper, in less time and won things?
Make a list and you have your answer as to which other premiership managers would be better than Moyes for our club.

Moyes has had 10 years nobody else has , the squad he had in the past wouldn't perhaps compare so favourably, would moyes have been acceptable replacement if I'd posted his name on here now with his then CV ? I don't believe he would . Football is strange its all about timing only 18months ago Owen Coyle was on the spurs shortlist and talked of at Anfield whilst now his job is under real pressure , if moyes had brought Preston up but only won 1 of 15 games would be have got our job ? Again no probably that's what I mean it's always tough to call and it's by no means an exact science.

If Moyes bought Preston up, Preston would likely have Lescott, Baines, Arteta, Cahill and so on and we would have the equivelent achievements of whichever manager we replaced him with.
Which manager according to the criteria laid out by Toffeebluenose there is superior? Its not about anything other than if they are better they would of done better for their clubs than he has for us. Use the first 5 years if it helps.. Who has made a better squad faster and cheaper than Moyes over his first 5 years?
TBN's question was how do you know a different manager couldn't of built a better squad, cheaper and quicker and the obvious answer has to be simply because they didn't.

you are talking utter boobs mate.

different scenarios happen for different managers mate, like sheeds said its not an exact science. Look at Di matteo, sacked by west brom, wins the champions league with chelsea. There are no guarantees in football, sometimes things just click into place, other times they go woefully wrong.
