I may get some stick here but...

I agree, Downing for me is something special, have always thought so! I really hope we are in their vying for his services when he eventually leaves Boro! I wouldnt be surprised if he was with us, villa, newcastle or spurs come the start of the new season, five year contract or not!

His goal at the weekend was sublime!

Downing yes please Rochemback not really also most " free" players are anything but as they expect wages that are higher because of there being no other outlay.

Too late for Rochemback. Already signed for Sporting with a wage cut. I would add " an aggressive wage cut". Sporting don't pay over 100k € a month. That's the limit.

In the old forum I added that he would make a great partnership with Manny. Manny would do all the running and Rochemback would spray the passes.

By the way, how about watching Sporting's squad? We've (I'm a Sporting fan also) produced C Ronaldo, Nani, Figo, Quaresma.... They must have some interesting players. The press are saying that Arsenal is looking for Veloso and Pereirinha and Man U is keeping an eye in Veloso and Moutinho.

We could give it a try.

I think Man Utd would beat us out to any Sporting signings, with it being there feeder club practically.

That's a wrong idea. Sporting isn't a feeder club to Man U.

People wrongfully think that because of CRonaldo and Nani, but in truth there was a partnership which should include exchanging players and experiences about youth development. However, that never happened.

One thing, almost every player in Sporting have a release clause. So, by that mean it would be impossible for the club to be a feeder to Man U.

As long as anybody meets the value it's up to the player to decide.

Veloso has a 30M€ release clause, Moutinho 25M€ and Pereirinha 20M€. These are the players the press has been praising and reporting them as being interesting players for a few english clubs.

By the way, Nani was sold for a price over the release clause, which was 20M€. He costed 25,5M€, which has earned speculation wether United was also buying a first option on anyone. But as I said, having a release clause on the players contract, doesn't give Man U any option since things maybe out of Sporting's ability to decide.
