Hypothetical Martinez question

Would we be in a better position right now with Martinez still in charge?

And you're sugar coating the reality. I've been watching us since the mid 90s and I can honestly say that I have never felt the anger and disappointment in our team as much as his final 2 seasons.

Some of the results this season have run that close, granted.

don't get me wrong, he deserved to go and i genuinely liked the feller as well

but honestly, I'd rather watch us get beat but have a go like we was then get beat cowardly without even having a shot like are doing now

( both in there own way is bad enough to be fair like )

Same. Love it when we have a go.

Dunno, let's not forget how frustrating it was to watch for his last 2 years, and how much bollocks he'd chat afterwards

Apparently he was a nasty prick behind the scenes as well, stuff like not speaking players for months on end after a bad performance lol

Agree on that, and it's frustrating that so many managers think being cautious is the way to go every time. There have been times recently where different changes could have brought about different results. Bringing on players like Lookman or Vlasic for example would give the opposition something to worry about. Instead we bring on players like Lennon, who does have some good qualities - the main one being hard work etc, but he isn't going to worry their defence much with his runs at goal.

I think Unsworth was very similar in that regard. We didn't deserve to go in 1-1 at Southampton, it took a wonder goal from Sigurdsson to do that. We needed subs at half time to change the way the game was going but he just stuck with what we had. After conceding 2 goals to make it 3-1, he then decided it was time to bring on Lookman in the 64th minute and finally Vlasic in the 75th.

Slightly different as the scoreline flattered us, but I actually think we rode our luck massively in that West Ham game too. They were all over us in the early part of that 2nd half and if they'd scored the penalty things could have been different. They missed the penalty in the 58th min but we needed to make a change. Unsworth just stood there watching and the game was only out of reach for them when Rooney killed the game off, making it 3-0. We didn't make any changes until the 85th minute.

What makes you think that? He was great in his first season and then he fell apart.

His philosophy was based around possession football and not worrying too much about the defence. Possession football is pretty pointless when the passes don't lead to anything.

People shouldn't forget how bad things got under him. The worst case being that derby defeat at Anfield 4-0.

Possession 33%
Liverpool shots: 37, Everton 3
Liverpool shots on target 13, Everton 0
Liverpool corners: 9, Everton 1

And people make out like Big Sam is the sole reason for us going to grounds in the top 6 and rolling over. Quite clearly not true.

My God .. 37 shots at goal in a single game? The ball is only in play for about 60 mins . A shot every 90 seconds basically .
