Hypothetical Martinez question

Would we be in a better position right now with Martinez still in charge?

No Martinez had to go.He lost the players, and he was too stubborn to learn from his mistakes. It's just that we made a mess with appointing his successors imo. It's sad really, because that first season under him was awesome.Sure the following two seasons were poor. But at least we went on a decent run in europe, and we also reached two cup semi finals.Which is better than the situation, we find ourselves in now in the middle of January, with our season over, and Sam Allardyce sitting in the dugout. What a time to be alive eh.lol

Roberto Martinez is an utter fraud - he won the FA Cup as Manchester City sacked Roberto Mancini before the final, and that same season he had his Wigan side relegated. Steve Bruce was a better overall manager at Wigan, though of course he was not gifted the FA Cup.

His first season was of course impressive, but he was basically working with the legacy of Moyes decade-long tenure (solid defence, good team ethic, etc). Afterwards he was an absolute disgrace of a manager. I still remember that Europa game where the opposition looked like scoring at will by launching long diagonal balls from their own half....

'FULL TIME: Dynamo Kyiv 5-2 Everton (agg 6-4)

'And then there were none. The end of English football’s interest in Europe arrived emphatically and shambolically as Everton were routed in the last 16 of the Europa League by Dynamo Kiev.

'Roberto Martínez had targeted this competition as possible salvation from a sorry domestic season, but the journey derailed in Ukraine’s capital. Criminally, his team went down with little fight. A truly woeful defensive display holed Everton’s hopes of a place in the quarter-finals and Sergei Rebrov’s clinical side were able to take full advantage.

'Andriy Yarmolenko and Vitorino Antunes started and finished the victory in stunning style, and Martínez claimed it was quality in front of goal that proved the difference on the night, but their goals book-ended an appalling collapse in the heart of the visiting defence. Antolín Alcaraz, Phil Jagielka and Seamus Coleman chose the wrong night to allow the weakness that has undermined Everton’s Premier League season to infect their European campaign.'

You are joking aren't you?

Kone
Alcaraz
Mgeady
Robles
Mori
Jimmy mac
Niasse
Cleverley
Lennon

Not one of these players are good enough and apart from jimmy mac none were an improvement on what we had

Good signings
Holgate
Lukaku
Barry
Mori: automatic starter for Argentina, Copa Libertadores winner. He's as good as anyone amongst our central defenders and carries a real goal threat.

Lennon: easily worth the cash paid for him given the input we've had off him.

Niasse: not RM signing.

So who signed niasse then mate? We paid nothing for Lennon 5m wasn't it? Just because he's cheap and good value doesn't make him a good signing . So you think mgeady was a good signing seeing as he was cheap? And alcaraz? And cleverley?

No, the slide/ rot had already begun from his 2nd season, I don't know if that was completely down to martinez, the players being gobsh1tes or off field decisons or a mix of all of the above.

Edit; the same rot is still happening at present so that's not just a problem of the martinez era.

No because:

- We were still bottom half
- Our best players would still all have left
- We'd have still brought Steve Walsh in
- We still wouldn't be able to defend
- The protests against him would still have continued and the home atmosphere would still be toxic

We'd be lighting up the Championship with dazzling sideways passing and the occasional fancy goal at the end of an 86 pass move, while conceding 6 away at Burton Albion. Clown.

Can't go past these 3 on P 1

He peaked at the 1st season's Christmas Video...wheels fell off on Boxing Day with the Osman back pass Vs Sunderland.

That leaves 2.5 seasons... call it 110 games. How many gooduns did we put in out of those? 8? 10? 6?...not as many as the number of abject capitulations...and that doesn't even get to the many meh ones

So who signed niasse then mate?
I was told by someone on the youth scouting side he was NOT the idea of Martinez to bring in. Take or leave.

What?!?!

So you think mgeady was a good signing seeing as he was cheap? And alcaraz? And cleverley?
Where did I claim that? I would say this though: compare Cleverley on a free with £25M for Klaassen.

Martinez wouldn't be here after relegating us the previous season anyway, so the point is moot

He would have ditched us the moment we went down, just like he did at Wigan, and would have somehow got another decent job, because football chairmen are idiots

Regarding Lennon ,just because he's good value doesn't mean he's a good signing. He's not upto the required standard.

Try looking at the people who actually appointed our last 4 managers (not inc Unsy) and there lies our biggest problem.
Yes I agree. All of our last 3 managers are bad choices. It is down to the people running the club. I know that Bill Kenright loves the club but under his stewardship we have made some major mess ups. He is not doing this on purpose but it has gone on long enough.

And you're sugar coating the reality. I've been watching us since the mid 90s and I can honestly say that I have never felt the anger and disappointment in our team as much as his final 2 seasons.

Some of the results this season have run that close, granted.
Just wait for Big Sam to kick on into next season. The anger will be on the rise once more my friend. I'm nearly there now. I mean just think about this...4 shots in the last 5 games. That gets me angry!
